Dodge power ram 50 2.6 gasser RPM range

Hi all,
What is the ideal rpm range on an 82 dodge power ram 50 with a 5 speed manual tranny? I am used to driving diesels and I keep shifting way to early. It has the 2.6 liter motor and it's a 4x4 if that even matters.

redline is 6k rpm although most run out of steam at 5500. torque peak is at between 3500-4000 rpm. My 1980 2.6 2wd which is modded, will get 25 mpg at 75 to 80 mph with rpms at 3400-3500.

wow, thanks for the response. I don't even know if I have got the rpm's to 3500 yet. I have been shifting when the rpm's reach between 2500 and 3000. I usually just just keep it at around 65mph and around 2900 rpm's on the highway.
