I'm running a fal temp switch that has an adjustible dial and controlled by a relay powered by the factory coil pack hot wire. Wires are 16ga for the relay connectors and 12ga for power from battery with fuse to fan, ground from fan to relay, from relay to ground.

Made my own relay wiring as I had a few extra relays from the pick and pull. Also had a small spool of 12ga primary wire from home depo.

If you don't have these on hand.

The oem truck coil has a 12v signal when the key is in the on position. I have 2 relays powered by this 12v signal. One is for the radiator fan, the other is for the fuel pump. I removed the coil, left the wire. Please solder and heat shrink your connections. The crimp connectors have the possibility to have poor connections at times.

Used a relay from a dodge caravan I believe. Did you eliminate your factory engine harness? I deloomed the entire engine harness and removed a lot of uneeded wires. The fan switch wires were one of the clips that my harness no longer have. If you kept the truck harness, the coil positive wire is an ring connector for a bolt to pass through it. Easily turned into a spade connector.

part of the old harness is their i found the main power to the fuse box in the truck .... i then took a volt meter and found a good thick wire that got power when the truck key is turned (planning on using that for the fuel pump and fan)

I also eliminated my heater pipes. Removed the top pipe from the thermostats housing and installed a brass plug. This could have been a fan switch for me, but I choose less wires. The album I have does not have updated pics of my current setup. Won't find pics there.

Hope you use this to power a relay to the fan/fuel pump. In the dsm community it's known as a fuel pump rewire. Uses the factory harness to power the relay to use a nice thick power wire directly from the battery.

We have the bonus to have less wires in the truck if the truck started out as a carb. Also run the wires as you see fit.
Come to think about it, the wires I used could have been 10ga. :s

I didn't have a relay kit for the fuel pump when I first started out. When the electrical load (ie blinker/headlights/brake light) increases, you hear the fuel pump slow down. Redid my fal fan wiring harness the same way and made a noticeable increase in fan speed. Used 16ga wires at first.

Ok Im about to order
100ft red and black 10awg wire (always good to have extra)
Bosch Relay 30 Amp with connector (fuel pump looked it up on walbro)
Tyco Relay 12Volt 30AMP & 12VDC 5-Pin Relay Socket
10awg Fuse holders
Flex-a-lite 31147 Adjustable Temperature Control Unit

With the fuel pump you should have had two small wires. I soldered the larger wires to these after cutting them so an inch long. Your choice where to tap the relay energize circuit but I would suggest 12v feed from battery positive terminal. And use relay for fan powering the ground circuit, not power. Good luck.

Keep us posted. Don't see a build thread. Lol. Input from members sometimes lead to good advice regardless if help is asked. Lol.
