Hello, I just purchased a 1986 D-50 Sport. I was wondering about how to find a shell for it.. Are there any other trucks that would have a similar camper top? Is there any way to modify another shell.. Thanks in advance.

Let one of the fellas correct me, but think the 1st gen, had a less common bed size. The second gen is within a couple inches of the Chevy S10 GMC S15. I would look at the want ads for a truck for sale and if you see one w/ a cap make an offer for the topper. I would also check all the cap dealers they might have an old one etc... If you were closer to the east coast, we have a guy in NC that specializes in used caps.

Yes the 1st gen bed is an odd size 6 and 3/4 feet long - no other mini truck cap fits without mods.

I have 1 on my 86 without mods, it was on there when I got the truck, handy as hell.

I found a place that builds shells for the Mighty Max second gens. You can call them and see what they will do. I talked with them and she thinks they still have the forms. So swamp them with calls and make it happen. A basic shell runs about $600+

Many of the big cap makers did manufacturer covers for our trucks back in the day...Just a bit of a hunting game to try to find one that didn't junk the molds. Personally, if you're not in a rush, I'd go the used route. You get to see the quality first hand. I bought an ARE "factory second" from a distributor a number of years for the other Power Ram 50 I owned. Had some scratches and runs in paint, was wrong color for my truck. Paid $300 then blocked it out and my buddy to shoot it w/ bc/cc for $100 inc. materials.

The one that came with my truck is aluminum, I've been trying to find a fiberglass shell and was going to ask the same question about other trucks Pennyman1's post was not good news, at 82", it's an odd length bed.

Does anyone know of any manufacturers that will make one new? I just got a Mighty Max SPX and trying to find one. Or any used ones near Florida?
Thanks!
