Maint. Req'd light on....why???

I have the maintenance required light on in my 1994 Mighty Max and I'm not sure why? Does it do this every 3k miles to indicate an oil change? If so, does anyone know the trick to turn it off? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure how often it comes on but I reset mine when I got my truck and it hasn't came back on since. Pull the little black filler panel under the right side of the cluster and look inside. The reset switch is in there on the bottom corner of the cluster.

Got it. Thanks!! I removed the hazard switch and I could see it plain as day. Now I have an ABS light that is on. It's likely this will require a bit more work.

I believe it is every hundred thousand miles, mine came on when I rolled past 200,000.

Believe it's every 45-50 thousand. Or maybe it was 75 but no more than every 75000

On my '89 2.0, the last time it comes on is at 120,000 miles for the last major tune-up. After that, the FSM says to pull the bulb out!

It was on when I got the truck so who knows when it came on. The PO owned it for over 3 years, and it had 118k on the title when he got it. It just turned 140,000 and has had a tune up with some gaskets replaced. I'm going to do the front end in a couple of weeks along with the timing belt. The light is off now, and what you guys are saying it more than likely will stay that way for a bit or maybe forever.

My 88 2.6 came on at 220,000

It is a maintanence/tune up reminder. Comes on at regular intervals and will continue to come on unless you pull the bulb.

It's supposed to tell the driver when to change the timing belt I believe. Pretty much "due for major tune up" light.

every 60k the light will come on. Just flip the switch and continue onward.

My '09 Tacoma would do it every 5k for oil changes.

pull that light bulb out, lol. The 86 Mighty Max would come on every 50k and I imagine that many people ran to the dealer asking why and the dealer suck them wallets for all they could. Big scam!

I have mine on currently also. And if the 75k is true, that could be the cause for mine. 78k original miles on a 95. Haha not to bad to my standards.

I bought mine with 45k miles on it and the light came on right after I passed 50k

I had a '94 Geo Tracker 4x4 A/T, (rebadged Suzuki Sidekick, for those who don't know) and in that vehicle the light was designed to pop on to remind owners to change the O2 sensor. In that vehicle, it was set to trigger at 75K, 100K, and well, after that I never saw the light come on again (wrecked at 157K). I believe the thought process was that the sensor should last about 75-80K from the assembly line, and aftermarket sensors were expected to last another 20-25K. Typical manufacturer trying to get you to replace a part that may not need replacement yet.

My advice is to reset the light and "fuhgeddaboutit." As long as you're emissions-compliant (depending on state of residence, of course) and you keep up on your maintenance (timing belt especially), it's a minor annoyance. I'd pay much more attention to the Check Engine light, since that directly shows a malfunction that the ECM knows about as opposed to an assumed part failure or an assumption (usually a correct one, statistically speaking) that the owner neglects maintenance schedules. You could remove the bulb if you wanted to; I'm OCD enough that I have to have all bulbs installed and working, even if I were to ignore them. LOL!

So I popped off the little filler thing and moved the switch over and my light goes off but if I put it back to the other side it comes back on... so is this an on off switch or reset? I'm cornfused. I'm slightly ocd as well and really want these stinking lights off its running fine, just did tune up.

Also!!! My parking brake light wront go off... it stayed on one day then went back off for a couple days then came back on and won't go off no matter how many times I make sure my parking brake is released.... Any tips tricks or ideas there?

You leave it to the side where it shuts off, no need to switch it back. when it hits its next checkpoint it will come back on, then you switch it the other way and switch it off again
