thillskier did it and then the gurus got into an epic fight about it, check out this thread. It's the same thing as a throttle body bypass on modern vehicles.

This isn't a power mod lol. It's not going to give you "holy shit 100 HP NOS!!!!" kind of power gain.

Nope.

These are kinda considered "old school ghetto mods" like sticking resistors in sensors, and hard timing tweaks with better fuel... it's just a bunch of stuff that makes your butt Dyno justify spending more money on daily commutes. If you want more power, spend a couple bucks and get something that will make more power.

4g63t?

^^That's one option. (Swapping)
Porting was mentioned in your other inquiry thread.
Intake and exhaust mods (like header, better muffler, larger piping, etc)
More powerful ignition (like MSD)
A cam can be cut for that engine for less than 200 bucks
The list goes on.

Tweaking doesn't really accomplish much. Granted, it is fun, and some swear it makes a eleventy-gabillion horsepower, but it's all a waste of time if you are actually shooting for gains. If you just want to play with it, go for it.... it's not really hurting anything, but you really aren't gaining anything. To me, it's a waste of time (no offense to anyone believing in this stuff).

The other area of focus is your chassis. You can make all the power in the world, but a chassis that can't manage it, makes all your power useless. If you focus your mods into the chassis, you will be able to use every bit of power that engine creates which is a gain in any aspect.

The best "free" mod would be to sell the carb'd truck for what you paid for it and buy a 2.4 liter fuel injected truck for what you sold the other one for. That's an instant 10 hp gain over the 2.6, about the same in lb-ft of torque, better MPG and an overall much more drivable, reliable truck because of FI.

Like Merrill said, mods aren't realistically going to do very much. But if you're looking at it from a hobbyist point of view and doing the work for the pleasure of it or to get elbow deep in your vehicle and really learn all about it, go for it. Then again, a few modifications here and there can add up into something much more enjoyable than stock.

If you are willing to wait, I'll sell you everything from mine (engine/trans/harness/ecu/etc.)

I won't need any of it for my swap.

My next swap is the 4G64 DOHC I am currently building.

Yard prices put that whole package at about 700-800 bucks or so. I'd be looking to fetch about that much. If you want me to rebuild it first, I'd sell it all for a grand (with warranty).

I would not say a fight, just a minor difference of opinion in maintaining operating temperatures.
