Got this car for free from a family member. I was told it didnt run and needed a clutch, it also has a bit of body damage. We went to go pull it out of the yard its been sitting in for almost 2 years, all of the brakes were locked up. Once we got it rolling we pulled it back to my house. Everything power worked but it wouldnt turn over so I had the starter tested. Came out good. So I took a jumper wire and jumped the starter and what do you know, fired right up and runs issue free even after sitting for so long. All power windows work, power locks and sunroof works, a/c works, ps and radio everything works. Got around to bleeding the brakes and its missing the pass. front caliper and they have a screw jammed into the line, but the brakes do work. Fired it up after we found the brake problem and drove it around the block. The car does not need a clutch or anything really. I'm guessing the stopped driving it because it wouldnt start. I also found a huge pile of service records in the glovebox, awesome! You really can't beat it for free. Anyways, heres some pics and a vid of it running.

That's a sweet deal man, not too many miles on it either. What do you plan on doing about the starting issue? Think it could be a bad ignition switch or something?
LethalEthan
06-28-2011, 08:32 PM
They say the contacts in these ignition switches are changeable. Im gonna take a look at it and see if their worn out if not, I'll just trace the signal wire from the starter to the ignition and look for problems. If I dont find anything i'm gonna end up running a new wire from the switch to the starter with an inline fuse.

Nice car dude..... cant beat that price either. Stick your head up under the dash and look at the clutch pedal. There is a switch at the top that keeps the engine from starting if the clutch pedal is not deprssed. Hondas usually have a little plastic plug that goes into a small hole in the pedal assembly. The plastic becomes old and brittle and then falls out of the hole. If it is gone you will see the switch contact poking through the hole in the pedal.
LethalEthan

They just replaced the clutch switch and the little tab on the pedal, that was one of the first things I checked. It's in the service records too, as well as new driver and passenger cv axles!

Little tip if the clutch switch pad is the problem - you can spend $20 or so at the Honda dealership and wait for the part - or superglue a penny there instead. We do it all the time at the shop - never wears out and you seriously cannot get a cheaper repair than $0.01

a friend of mine just got a 4 door with 170k for 300. his dads friends didnt need it anymore. and theres not a thing wrong with it. but i still think you got a better deal. do you have any self service yards in your area where you can go snag your parts for cheap. or do you just plan to buy new ones.

I went to the u-pull it the other day and found 7 2 door accords of the same year and body style. I wont have any problems finding cheap parts. So far im in it $34 hahahahaha
that thing was def. worth it....and i see a crap ton of those in the pick-a-parts around here....10-20 and they keep coming and going like clock work...

no idea. I guess its honda's idea of a speaker pod. I've had my digi cam for about a year now. Its just a point and shoot. Samsung TL110 14.2mp. Its ok, a little grainey sometimes. You wanna see some good pics I'll break out my nikon N55. But no one does 35mm anymore. I know that the traffic red light cameras are a Nikon. They stick 4 $7000.00 cameras around the intersection in the boxes on the poles. I've been thinking about putting on my orange vest and pulling out the ladder and grabbing one. A socket and ratchet just pull the housing and go. thanks guys. I tried to do my clutch hose last night but the fitting is impossible to get to so i'm gonna hold off on that until it absolutely has to be done. I got some rear bumper markers off a cd5 accord (the next body style up) so i've been working on putting those in and getting them wired. I broke one into pieces test fitting it so i'll have to replace that one before its finished, hopefully the other side goes a bit smoother

I don't know how many times they have saved my eyes. At least you keep the shield on the small grinder. They become finger monsters when people pull them off. I don't know how many gloves I have cut through from not having a gard on the 4" grinders. Now the 9" I never have a gard on it In fact I don't think it came with one. It has a place for 2 hands.

I've had stuff go in my eyes before, but its never been to bad. I had a cutting disk blow up on me once, always use a shield. But I do know some of the bigger ones don't use a shield. I just don't like sparks flying all over burning my arms (hence the sweatshirt in 80 degree weather)

Ran great for a little while then my axles went out. Replaced with brand new ones I got off the internet and developed a bad vibration in the front end. The brand new axles didn't last but 150 miles before they were trashed again. Got some re-man's from the autoparts store and they worked great. While I was in there I also did brand new hubs and wheel bearings with extended wheel studs. Also did lower control arm bushings and lower strut bushings in polyurethane. Also cut my rotors with the brake lathe at work so they're nice and new again.

Of course it's an interference engine so now all the valves in the head are bent. Not wanting to do much with this engine the car is sitting until I can afford a jdm H22 to drop in it. Should be early next year. In the mean time I figured I'd do some wire tucking and also move the battery to the trunk.

LethalEthan
12-14-2012, 06:27 PM
that would be nice! I've seen the 2.5 vtec swap done before, requires custom mounts and axles and all kinds of other jazz. I'm going with the H22 for simplicity. It drops right in using my wire harness, mounts, tranny and everything. Was gonna use the prelude transmission to since it's shorter gear ration and lsd. But since I just put new axles in it I'm gonna use mine for now. Will probably end up using the prelude trans whenever I need axles again or start having problems with my current trans.

never thought about just swapping the heads. I planned on buying from hmotorsonline as well. Heard lots of good things about them. Seperated the trans today and pulled the clutch and flywheel. Defintely time for a new clutch. Also found a large crack in the throwout bearing

Don't destroy that input shaft. there like $1500 if you can find them. A buddy of mine had the barrings go bad. But it did not destroy the shaft. Otherwise it's worth more then the car it's self.

The shaft itself looks fine. I had some noise one time that sounded like bearing noise. It went away once I swapped over to Amsoil MTF. Not sure how the throwout bearing got the crack in it, but it may have been related to the noise I was having.

lookin great so far! man i miss my cb7.. its been like 10 yrs. since i had one. lol
i'd suggest drop in a H22a4 from a bb6.. if u can get ur hands on motor+tranny combo from the Prelude SH it comes w/ ATTS. it takes some $$$ but not as much as the j35 swap from the TL type S (which would be insane in that accord btw) LOL regardless, with either of these 2 options u would have a killer cb7.

Better off with a h22a - the h22a4 swap becomes a real pain when you eliminate the ATTS scrap - just helped a friend swap the h22a4 combo into a 95 prelude - the plate drawing for the half shaft conversion he got off the internet was off by a 1/4 to 3/8 inch in 2 directions and required the motor to go to the plate fab guy to get it right. Car now needs to go to the tuner for dialin in the spring.

yeah the JDM h22a from the type S BB6 would be dope. plus the highest HP output in the h-series motors (except for the SiR s-spec. prelude) and 11:1 comp. ratio. only down side is h-series blocks aren't too boost friendly.

I'm going with an obd1 h22a. drops right in no prob. Just have to wire the vtec and the iab's since the old motor was an f22a4 with no iab's. But I can get the iab harness from an f22a6 junkyard motor. I come across them every once in a while. I've since cleaned and painted the stock trans

Pulled the wire harness from the old motor which I'll be using on the new one along with my stock fuel rail since the jdm h22a fuel inlet is on the opposite side (otherwise the rails are the same)

Pulled the intake and head just to see what it looked like in there. Not to bad, and visually only 4 valves appeared to have made contact. Though they're all bent.

They're plastic lens. I think the jdm ones are glass though. After a good wetsand and polish on the lenses, they should look pretty nice. I pretty much stole them. Online they go anywhere from 250-400. I got everything for $47

yeah everybody has diff. taste.. to each his own i guess. lol what do u think about the JDM foglight upgrade for the rear bumper?
LethalEthan
01-24-2013, 01:16 AM
I like the bumper mounted rear fogs, but wouldn't put one on my car. They're priced kinda high but not as bad as others. I REALLY like the intersection lights for the front bumper, but I think they'd make the front end to busy. I might run them if I got new fenders and ran without the sidemarkers.
Only other thing I'd like to get for the outside is a 92-93 coupe trunk (spoilerless, been keeping an eye out at the junkyards for them, but most have spoilers) and the flushy spoiler. I'd like to get my hands on some one piece headlights as well, but only if I found a really good deal on them. I think $300-400 for used lights with plastic lenses is rediculous.
ikeepzitclean
01-24-2013, 02:12 AM
yeah the rear foglight is def. pricey. as for the jdm intersection lights, those are pretty damn rare too but they look brilliant on these 4th gens. BUT it might get a lil busy cuz u got the foglights in the front bumper too. overall ur right tho, the intersection lights would probably make for one too many lights on the front bumper since u already have signals, foglights and parking lights by the headlights up there. the fender side markers look great, i'd say keep them and forget intersection lights for now even tho they're sick.
are u talking about the LED flush spoiler or a nice lip style spoiler (which would complement the body lines of these 4th gens.)

great job dude. cb7 looks soo much better w/ an h-engine in it. lol almost as if that was supposed to be in there from factory as opposed to the f-series. btw, looks like a tight squeeze around the rear cam and left strut tower area or maybe just the angle of the pic. and how's the fit behind/under the intake manifold? did u use stock charcoal canister on firewall for all the egr shit or did u get everything from the h22?

Pretty much everything on the driver side is tight as hell. Firewall clearance is about the same as before. I dumped all the emissions stuff as we don't have any sort of inspection or testing here in ga. All I have left now is to put the axles in (working on that as I type this) solder the vtec wiring and put fluids in her. If all goes well we should be starting it next weekend. Then ill just have to take it somewhere and have them weld up the exhaust.

It lives! And it's street legal again. Got it tagged and insured about a week ago and have put 200 miles on it since then.

The 200 year old oak tree in my front yard fell on the car. The body is totalled. Most of the suspension on the driver side rear is also done for I think, but the wheel doesnt look to bad. Insurance wont cover it some I'm not sure what to do now. I guess ill find another one and swap all my stuff over. I have some videos and stuff to post from the last times I got to drive it. I'll post those up in a bit but for now heres some pics.

Are you sh*tting me? After all that work it ends up getting turned into a skate board... makes you wonder if there was any point in getting it insured when the insurance companies make their policies out of loopholes. Sorry to see your car ending up in such a sad state. :(

thanks. We were hoping we could get the homeowners insurance to pay for it but they wont cover any auto's. Just gonna have to try and find a shell to swap all my stuff over into. Really not looking forward to doing all that work again, especially the wire tuck.

It don't look that bad. Looked like you drove it to where it's parked at now. Just force things back into a somewhat close alignment and drive it till it blows. Might as well have some fun with it before goes away. Sure does suck.

Decided to stop in today and check out some of you guys trucks. Figured I could update this a little bit as well. I decided to part out the car, and actually sold my complete h22 engine and transmission to a friend of mine about 2 weeks ago.
As a replacement for my car, I bought this

Much cheaper, MUCH faster, and way more fun than anything with doors.

Nice Honda, what model is it? I love street bikes(well anything two wheels in general) but I don't know if I'd ever buy one for my self. I like going too fast(very easy to do on a street bike lol) and people don't pay attention well enough while driving for me to get one. Would definitely save me a TON on gas to and from work though.
Got any plans for it?

It's a cbr 600 f4i. I couldn't believe how cheap everything is basics wise! $12 to fill it with gas, $20 a year for the tag and somewhere around $11.90 a month for insurance hahaha. It is way to easy to go stupid fast on it, I have to practice a lot of self control hahaha. This is the first thing on two wheels I've ever ridden except bmx bikes. I've had it about two weeks now and I'm still getting used to it.
It has a couple mods already but nothing crazy. Led tail with integrated turn signals, flush mount front signals, and pig spotter mirrors. I replaced those with factory mirrors though because I couldn't see anything but my elbows. I won't do a whole lot to it myself. I'd like to get the split seat and paint the whole bike that same red, that's mostly it. I like to spend as little as possible on it.

Cheaper until you realize the odometer rises a lot quicker than a cars does and tires are tied with fuel for the biggest expense, they aren't cheap and wear fast. The fun is worth it though, bikes rock, sold my last motorcycle last month and bought a bicycle to replace it. but motorcycle ADD kicked in and I wound up committing to buy the bike that got me started with motorcycles, a '95 kawi ZX11E project bike that I'm not going to get around to for a while.

Hah! I do need a new rear tire too hahaha. I priced them out though they're alright. I always bought good tires for my car so I'm used to paying $100-$175 per tire, makes it a lot better only having to buy two tires vs four though. I've seen people say to compare bike miles to car mileage you need to multiply the bikes miles time 10. I don't know how true that is, but I do know bike stuff wears a lot faster than car stuff.
