So I have my rear end totally apart putting in the power brute LSD and since I'm at this point I figured I might wanna chance out the ring gear while I'm in there. Now my daily driver is a miata that has 4.30's in the rear of it and it seems fine. Just a little high in th rpm on the highway but it puts you right in the sweet spot of the power band. Just looking for someone else that has done the swap and what their thoughts are

Back in the day John Baker sold the 4.22s for the d-50s to wake up the truck to put the motor in the torque sweet spot at highway speed. So if you can find them put them in, you won't regret it.

that's what i thought!! like i said my 99 touring miata has 4.30's in it and in 5th on the free way you just have to push the pedal down a little to easily pass people. and as luck would have it this guy accepted my offer for this rear end on ebay earlier tonight!! i didn't really want the whole rear end just really the gears but hey, i'll have a extra set of axles and may get lucky and find a LSD in it. as rare as the 4.22's are this one is from a 4X4 2.6L model. any chance of it having a LSD? and if so since i already have a power brute, what do the factory LSD usually go for?

if its from a 2wd its probably open, 4wd maybe lsd - the used factory lsd can go for 100 and up depending on condition.

It's from a 1987 2.6L 4x4, I know most of the 4x4's that come with the usual 3.90's are open. But this one having the rarer 4.22 gear in it makes me wonder. The rear end is coming from a massive 40,000 car junk yard so I doubt they even looked for the LSD. Fingers crossed!!!
