Yes, Its time to upgrade the carpet. I have people coming to town shortly, so I need new carpet in the MMMM. I have searched and looked. I want personal opinions if you have replaced your carpet. Who's carpet kit did you use? Were/Are you happy with it? Also, since mine is special, cause others are like it, BUT this one is MINE!!! I want the MM to welcome new carpet install.

PFFfft! Carpet! MY truck has hardwood floors, granite countertops AND oak wainscoating!

Seriously, though: Noahwins spoke a long time ago of an outlet that sold decent replacement carpets...and I'd like to know, too, because the hardwood floors are getting old.

CALLING NOAHWINS!

Hmmm...that always works in "Bewitched"...

Maybe I'll PM him with a heads-up about this thread.

Ebay. Fits great, almost any color you want, decent price. The company takes a week or so to make it. There is a bit of trimming to make it fit best (I'd rather have it that way).

Merrill, that's the one I had heard about. Thanks.

If anyone has that link, it would be very appreciated. Will pay for info in donuts. I recall it was reported they run about $130.00, which is pretty reasonable.

Also, Noahwins sent this PM in reply to my query:

StockInteriors.com and Rock Auto both sell a pretty wide selection of carpets -- I'd trust Rock Auto before Stock Interiors though for fitment.

1158-90 CARPET 1990 Mitsubishi Mighty Max Club Cab (With Rear Flap) Cutpile $284.87
1155-90 CARPET 1990 Mitsubishi Mighty Max Reg Cab 2WD Cutpile $212.19
...ACC site

I couldn't get a picture to come up on the site...sorta would like that.

RockAuto is showing an "ACC#", for $100 less (cutpile). The "Essex" looks like it would be easier to keep clean, and the color choices are many. For the higher quality, it's still under $200.

One problem I have: I'm afraid to take my old carpet up. I'm likely to find Jimmy Hoffa.

So the vinyl turned out to be pretty hard to work with. It is incredibly thick and heavy material. It is oversized in all dimensions and you have to cut it to fit. You also have to cut the holes for everything.

Well, I am not the most patient person, and I got angry with it so my result is not that great. I cut too much in some spaces. I think if someone was willing to take more time and measure more they would get a better result.

You can see the floor here. Its like a rough textured heavy plastic. You can also see by the center console where i cut too much.

Nice steering wheel, It definitely distracts me from looking at the floorboard completely.
You may be able to camouflage that cut out with left over material. Use that yellow gooey weather stripping adhesive from auto parts store and place a patch there that looks like it was designed that way. Cars usually have an extra support piece of rubber by the peddles so it keeps carpet and stuff from wearing out from rubbing against it.

Ok, ACC Essex carpet came in a few minutes ago. First Impression, I am pleased.
If the rear of my truck were to stay stock, I would have been upset. The "flap" is not cut or trimmed out for the cubby holes.
That being said, this carpet will work awesome for my full coverage. Its thick, its Heavy, It smells FRESH, It will be a few weeks before I will be able to put the carpet in the MMM. So, this will be the time to let it heat up and air out.
Stay Tuned!!

I see this thread is kinda old but I would sell the carpet from my 95. Its in really good shape and would look even better with a good cleaning.

Hey Jeb, probably sell faster in the for sale area for you. Then post a link to it in post that you reply to. Might take photo of it too, just an FYI. :)

I have looked quite extensively for a carpet for my 1988 2 wd ext cab. All the ext cab 2 wd carpets I have found start at 1989 and go to 1993. My question is this: Is the floor pan the same for the '88 and '89 trucks? I recently pulled the interior out of a 1991 reg cab 2 wd and noticed that the tranny hump looked a lot like my '89 4x4. It even had the same console with the shifter hole closed off with a rubber pad.

Same floorpan.

Thanks for clearing that up. Now my curiosity is up and would like to know if the regular cab 2 wd trucks started using the same floor pan as the 4 wd. It would make sense to just have one floor pan that worked for both.

Just got a new carpet kit from ACC for my extended cab. It fit just as well as I remember my single cab carpet from them fitting. It came with plenty of extra so I could trim and fit it as I wanted.
Here's a pic:

looks good, i was looking to get carpet for my truck, I wasn't sure how the carpet for the extended cab would look,

Only difference in floorpans I've noticed is the tranny hump for the automatics is significantly bigger than the manuals. But I don't know if that would effect aftermarket carpet fitment. If they're not OEM, they're usually cut generously.

Andy 2

that does look good. It looks like 2 pieces. I assume the holes for the storage compartments and the seatbelts are not pre-cut.

DroppedMitsu
07-28-2015, 08:07 AM
It is 2 piece, and it fits very well. As with all ACC carpets there are no holes or anything cut out, they let you do that so you can customize/fit it like you want. And I am assuming ACC has molds for both manual tranny and automatic floorplans(and yes they can be MUCH bigger depending on which model year auto tranny, 90+ are HUGE even compared to 89 2.6 auto) as they tell you to specify the version of cab(std or ext) and also which transmission you have. And they come with A LOT of extra material(which I like), so you can trim and tailor it to your needs. I've been very happy every time I've bought from ACC.

Andy 2
07-28-2015, 10:48 PM
perhaps they dropped the 2 wd floor pan after '89. Did you get the extra thick backing they mention on the website?

DroppedMitsu
07-29-2015, 08:13 AM
No, didn't see the need. The carpets are already soft and padded enough, plus my whole cab has had sound deadener mat installed.

Looks nice. Have to ask thou is it cheaper to get a cut pile or oem fitted one . I was a little worried about getting a cut pile carpet because fitment issues but I bet it's better quality carpet?

DroppedMitsu
07-30-2015, 11:21 AM
The carpet is still molded to the floor pan like an oem is, unless you specifically just want a piece of cut pile which will be way cheaper either way. My carpet only cost $170 off ebay, guarantee an oem carpet is going to be EXPENSIVE. The carpet is also much nicer and higher quality than OEM and fitment is pretty spot on for the single cab and extended cab carpet kits I've received from ACC.
