Will it fit?

Hi guys, I'm in the market for a M/T for Ramona my 87 Ram 50. My question: will a km145 out of an 85 Montero fit? I found one reasonably priced

Yes, the monty has the 2.6 like mine does.

but is it a manual tranny in your truck? 87 all 2.6 motors should be wide blocks, but with the age of these trucks you can never be sure. Swaps are done all the time - I found an 86 ram 50 in the upullit, the firewall said g63b, but the motor was a g45b auto.

It is a manual also and includes the transfer case. But Ramona has a cable clutch, the Montero has a hydraulic clutch. Will that be a big deal? My tranny took a :buttsway:. Maybe I can steal internals

if you pull the slave cylinder off - the cable will go through the hole in the bell housing and hook to the arm. Be sure to get the shifters with the transfer case - they could be different from the truck.

Thanks Pennyman1. So I would also need the slave cylinder and clutch assembly not only the tranny itself? Sorry if this topic has been discussed in the past. I have not found any helpful info but here

you don't need the slave cylinder with the cable clutch pedal. We are the only ones crazy enough to go all out for these trucks - thats why there is so much knowledge and info here. Clutch assembly should be the same, but measure the clutch disk - truck stock is 225 mm later trucks have 240 mm clutchs which is better.

I imagine I would need the throw out bearing from the hydro as well? And o dont completely understand what arm the cable hooks to.

Do you mean "throwout lever" when you say arm? I've never dealt with a hydro clutch.

you would need to swap the arm from your old tranny in place of the one on the montero tranny - throwout bearing may be the same, but you could use the montero one.

Awesome, I was able to pick up the tranny so now I can put theory to action. Ill be working on that this weekend and will give progress reports along the way. Thanks a mill.

So got under the truck to drain the tranny today, and the fluid was light at first but it got darker as it went on. I decided to drop the pan.

And this is what I saw..

Im back. Long story short, i couldnt figure out how to incorporate the cable clutch arm to the hydraulic clutch bell. I've decided to go with hydraulic clutch for comfort and ease. The main gear is shot on mine and I don't really want to put any more knotches on my "km145 breakdown" belt. I've had practice but have lent out the wrenches I use. Crescent and monkey

Can anyone show me how to convert the hydro to work with the cable clutch system? I noticed earlier that pennyman mentioned about putting the cable through the bellhousing hole. But what do you hook it up to? Thats what I'm trying to figure out, I have both transmissions out and trying my damn hardest to figure it out but I am stumped and need help.
