small lift

When I got my 83 it had 16 rims. The torsion bars are maxed out. Does anyone have a source for air shocks so I can put the bars back to normal and still be able to run the 16's. If this isn't an easy fix I'll just put the 15's that I also have on. I'm not really wanting to lift anything just be able to run the better looking rims I have. Any help would be great.

You can also get a set of upper control arms from a 1st gen montero to get 1-2" lift on 4wd trucks - its a direct swapout. There was a thread around the forum about swayaway making lift torsion bars and a swap using montero bars, but I don't know what the end result of that was. You really want to not run the torsion bars fully cranked up like that as they will lose tension over time especially with the age of the bars.

Pennyman1, Your right on. I remember Kane (mightyd50) had spoken a lot about this. The suspension will bolt up, the control arms are 1 inch longer, which is good thing to get a smoother ride, and a tad more travel. If I was going to do this (And I am) I'd go with the whole. And if you find a 1st gen Montero, check to see if has a rear LSD. If so, snag it too!

ok, I understand montero uppers fit. My question is Rickdees says he will go with whole, the whole what? front suspesnion uppers, lowers and spindles is the entire montero front suspension interchangable? if it is and they average an 1" longer does this mean you will need the front shafts as well.

From what I remember from old thread from mightyd50 MainstreaM (Kane) talked a lot about the Montero front ends fitting our trucks.
So yes shafts as well. I think we even talked about the Starion LSD chunk will fit in front with some shimming of your ring gear.
Kane is a huge mountain of info on Mitsubishi, and great guy to boot!
When he speaks about stuff pay close attention.

Yes the 8" starquest LSD will fit in the front of a MM/ ram50 diff, just not in the rearend - the LSD from the 1st gen montero will fit with gears of 4.22 and 4.625 available. The gears from the 1st gen front diff will fit the starquest lsd as well to match up ratios front to rear. The gears are still availble from mitsu the last I looked.

Thanks for that info the local pick n pull as like 4 1st gen. monties that is where I sorced my shifter from. Also couldn't you just reindex the lower arm in relation to the torque arm and gain some lift that way as well.

I also read somethings are not direct bolt in. Something is different, we know the Montero is overall 2" wider. Correct?
