View Full Version : '84 Ram 50 Fuel Pump

Working on the kids '84 with the 2.6L engine. I finally tracked down my oil leak. Its coming from around the fuel pump gasket. I've followed the Hayne's Manual and have the engine at TDC and removed the valve cover, but can't for the life of my get the pump out of the head. The pump rocker arm hits against the head bolt tower. Any suggestions before I roll this thing out in the street and set it on fire.

Finally got the pump out. What a pain in the butt!! No I just need a pair of gaskets and the spacer and I should be good to go. The old spacer was cracked and allowing oil to run down the side of the engine.

I'm glad you got it off before you torched it. We've all been at that point.

You should be able to get a spacer at any auto parts store with little cost. It'll come with the fuel pump gasket set.

I just about have this little truck sorted out. My oil leaks were at the fuel pump and valve cover. Was also leaking coolant from around the thermostat gasket. Of course, in the process of fixing this leak, one of the bolts broke off in housing. Ended up drilling it out oversize and tapping for a new bolt. One more problem solved. Last issue is that the truck seems like its running on 3 cylinders when the motor is cold. Once warmed up, it runs fine. The choke looks to be working correctly. Any other suggestions to get it running better when first starting?

My 79 2.6l ran rough on startup too. Turned out I had two bad jet valves. You might check those if yours has them.
