just bought 84 ram 50--????what engine do i have???

sounds stupid but buck tag on firewall says g54b but this engine has a timing belt..funny thing is i bought it from original owner and nothing has ever been done to it and still runs good at 115k what engines did they offer in 1984 with timing belt..

2.0 g63b - the only motor for that year in a truck with a timing belt - it will also have paired exhaust ports.

Thats a 2.6L tag, but with a belt it should be a 2.0L. I would run your VIN number and see what it is really. Here is a website I use its helpful www.decodethis.com It gives a pretty good detail about your truck. post some pics if you can but defently let me know what your VIN said about your truck.

came back as a 1985 d50 royal 2wd no other data was listed in the deocode..but i know this truck has never had a engine replace..going post pics later but will post my 94mm i have for now..

Yea if it has paired ports its a 2.0. A g54b 2.6l will have evenly space exhaust ports. Also g54b has a chain while 2.0 has a belt. On the pass side of the block behind the waterpump there should be a flat area on the block with the engine code stamped onto it also to be sure.

A Ram 50 ROYAL only came with a 2.6 period. That's not the original motor

absolutely Mike, I had an 85 Ram 50 royal and it was a 2.6 w/ 5 spd
