No they are not - 1st gen only has the level sensor, 2nd gen also has the fuel pickup and the electric fuel pump if the truck is fuel injected.

for 2nd gen trucks will longbed tanks fit in shortbed regardless if its fuel injected or not?

what does everyone do if they need a new tank and dont want a used one? without going fuel cell....does anyoine have a pic of the 1st gen tank? maybe i can make it work with an external pump? thats if thew sies are close...im wanting to keep in stack location and just raise it above the frame rails.

mounting holes are in different spots, the fuel outlet is at the bottom side of the tank, and I am not sure of the difference in length, although I think there were 3 different capacities for the 2nd gen vs 2 for the 1st gen. With a little modding, a first gen tank should be able to be made to fit - and Warme has new sending units for them.

I would recommend giving these guys a call

http://www.transferflow.com/index.html

They make, sell, and install their own aftermarket tanks, and have install locations in Indiana. Maybe even call one of the install locations the have listed here:

I see no reason why an aftermarket tank wouldn't be legal if it met all safety regulations. Maybe these guys will have more info on that.

it is a mechanical pump on the head if carbed; don't know about the sender ohms, but the hole for the sender is larger for 2nd gen if i remember correctly
