So I just got this truck running after a while, I put another motor in it, and runs great again.
I used the original carb because the one on the new motor was seized.
So it's running like it did before.
If I only use 1/4 throttle it drives around great!
Starts great and the choke works good.
But if I give it anymore throttle it seams like it hesitates and you feel the truck slow down and if you floor it then it will just slowly accelerate. So lack of power "bad! As in on a freeway on ramp I only hit 40mph by the time I'm on the freeway"
So I need someone to help me because I am a complete noob at carbs. I can do anything else. And I am a visual learner. I have a Haynes manual and it's like Spanish to me.
Anyone near ogden utah area?
It has new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, ignition timing set to 5*, new air filter, cleaned egr and ports, all vac lines are good "even in the litte silver box on fender".
New clutch, syn oil change, trans fluid, clutch cable adjusted, throttle cable adjusted correctly!
I just don't know carbs well enough.
I would like to stick with an oem carb because I want this truck to stay original.
Any help would be fantastic! Thanks!

sounds like a vacuum leak - spray carb cleaner around the base of the carb and the intake to head area - if idle changes, you found the leak.

Oh I also replaced the manifold to carb gasket.
But I will try that! Thanks!

Be sure you connected the right vacuum hose to the distributor for advance. Check your timing if you haven't yet, can't expect the new motor is setup right. Make sure choke is not partially closed also, restricting some air flow.
Keep an eye on dripping oil with the synth change. The synth oil is so good it can find ways to leak. If you had a leak, if will make it worse. But should be ok. Synth also cleans deposits, which also can cause little issues around the engine. If it survives the change without a problem you should be home free on that.

I took pics of vac lines before disassembly.
And I'm positive they are right, but I can double check.
I replaced the oil pan gasket while I had the engine out since it was out in the open haha
But the truck runs exactly the same from when I first bought it with original engine.
And now literally everything has been changed but the carb so I just suspected that it's a carb problem.

Plugged fuel filter. Plugged needle and seat. Float level set to low. Accelerator pump not working correctly. Plugged main jets. If you don't need to SMOG it get rid of that carb. There junk. Or it could be a bad fuel pump.

Ok so just for the heck of it I switched the two Vacumme lines going to the distributor and it runs better! I'm actually going 65 by the time I hit the freeway.
But it you can still slightly feel a miss or something. So I think I still need someone to tweak with the carb.
I did replace the fuel filter less than a year ago.
I wanted to replace the file pump just for the heck of it and being original.

Ok so I'm checking the distributor.
Is this right?
The #1 piston is at top dead center from a compression stroke and the rotor is pointing at #1.

By the way, it started doing it again, so I looked in the mirror and saw black smoke when it would bov down and hesitates.
So it's running rich or missfires

Ok so I took the truck to my grandpas good freind who knows carbs, so I got a rebuild kit from Oriley auto parts and he rebuilt it and truck runs fantastic,
Strong, and gets up and goes now smooth all the way to redline "I never do this""test reasons"! I am very satisfied!
And also, it had 2 bad diaframs.

I was told I had a vacuum leak as well. Any suggestions.

Replace vacuum lines one at a time. There old and cracked. For a couple of bucks it won't hurt. But I would say you had a problem. Looks like the accelerator pump.
