injection pump timing

does anyone know if you fine tune the pump with a dial indicator like a vw (4d55) thanks

Yes, I think you can.
But I don't remember, it's been a long tome since the 80s and several pounds of weed LOL.

I haven't done a vw, but I believe so. The design is a bosch ve style pump.
I don't have my manual with me at the moment, so I am not sure of the correct degrees or measurements, but the basic procedure is:
Set your crank at some degrees before tdc (not sure where exactly maybe 5 degrees? there is some leeway here before it matters).
Loosen the bolts holding the IP to the engine (both under the IP and in front of the IP)
Remove the plug at the back of the IP
Attach your dial indicator to the back of the IP
Set the crank to the correct position (I think it is 5 deg ATDC? not sure)
rotate the IP until it shows the correct setting (I believe it is 1mm)
Tighten the front IP bolts, then move the crank back and then try again to double check your measurements.

I used to think this stuff was easy to find on the web, but I am having difficulty finding the info today. Maybe someone else can provide a link to the particulars.

for the bracket underneath the pump, you should probably loosen the bolts holding the ip to the bracket, and also the bolts holding the bracket to the engine block.
