Replacement Fan Blade Possibilities

Hey I'm looking to replace my fan blade on my 1st gen 2.6 liter D50. Having trouble finding an OG replacement. I'm thinking about ordering a Flex-a-lite 5715 5700 Series Clutch Fan 15 in diameter.

Has anybody used this part/know if its a good fit? or know of any other good replacement fan blades? Thanks

An electric thermo fan will have a number of advantages over the mechanical clutch fan. Keeps the engine cool when it needs it (like stuck in traffic on a stinker of a day), takes the load off the engine (these things rob power and response) and prolongs the life of your water pump bearings. Plus they can be front mounted to free up engine bay room. The newer type of slimline fans run rings around the mechanical fans and old 4 blade electric thermo fans for efficiency, are very reasonably priced and are super reliable. Might be time for an upgrade? :grin:

Hmmm, something to consider indeed. Whats the process for capping where the fan clutch used to be?

All you need to do is maybe add some washers under the nuts(can't remember If it has studs there or bolts) to take up some space where the fan body used to sit so the water pump pulley is still secured tight. Nothing tricky about it just make sure the water pump pulley will stay where it needs to be on the waterpump shaft.

Okay okay, I'm liking the sound of this Electric fan more and more, though it does seem to be a bit pricier in the short term.

Anybody have any suggestions on models that perform well and would fit? Looks like the the slimline and flexalite fans get good reviews and seem relatively easy to mount?

Side note: Since the electric fans push more air around, can you go with a smaller diameter fan than you would otherwise? Or should one go for the largest diameter that will fit?

Flex-a-Lite #111. I'm running this one and a Shepherd's all aluminum 2 row radiator combo on my Colt with a 2.6 swap. Works great.

I used a length of alu extrusion for mounting brackets and front mounted an 11" thermo fan in the front of my Colt (think Plymouth Colt...you know, that weird little fwd thing circa 80's a-la Mitsubishi) Bigger fan = faster cool down time. And you can add a fail safe to the electrical side of it - bridging a toggle switch to the relay will allow you to override the thermo sender unit when a catastrophic cooling system failure occurs. Might be the difference between a brief boil over on the side of the road and a cracked cylinder head...

I put a flex fan on mine. I'll take pics of it today of I have time. I did have to go to the hardware store for longer studs though. I used a spacer also for the fan as well. I can't remember if it is a 1 or 2 inch. If I recall the project came in under $40

Thanks for all the good info fellas, I got some research to do! Having ordered a replacement fan blade (thanks to maxdsm) imma pop that baby on there and hold off on the electric fan swap till I sort out a number of electrical issues, namely a slew of rat/mouse damaged wires (thread forthcoming).
