Lets revisit the lifting a 2wd MM.

Ok so I'm almost done withy rebuild/restore and I really just cant get into the looks of a lowered mini truck. I've had my time in the 90s and just not into that look anymore. So there has to be some type of easy swap to get this thing in the air somewhat. I really think I will not be happy until I have built a "budget" prerunner look.
There has to be some type of other make that has somewhat similar control arms right? What about a coil over setup? Long travel would be awesome but I don't have the budget or skill camoit does lol.
Any insight would be awesome.

Back in the 80's John Baker sold 2 and 3" lift coils for 2wd trucks - Eaton spring could probably make them for you. There are also 2-3" lift leafs for our trucks, or get your springs re-arched at a spring shop. I also put a link to a body lift kit on ebay for more height. Pro-comp or Rancho may have longer shocks for lifted 2wds.

But as I understand, increasing the height of the coil is still limited by the spindle correct? So finding a longer spring that fits from another vehicle is a waste as it wouldn't accomplish change in travel or ride height

Not worried about rear. After figuring out the front, I will and can 4 link with coil lt travel shocks. I have a random assortment of FOX long travel crap from buying stuff during an auction of a truck shop in town for stupid cheap

Well the reason I got back onto this kick is a friend who is a design engineer, tried to put this into a rendering. Well geometry kicked our ass. No way to accomplish this with current (or even close too) setup. Even creating custom longer control arms is pointless to making a long travel. Guess I should've learned from studying camoit's build thread and a few others. I guess I can always keep freaking dreaming. You can delete my hopes and dream thread if you need the extra space back.

hey, use a 4x4 frame. leave out the front axle, get about 4" lift.

^ not a bad idea. Since picking up a donor parts truck I will make the venture into customizing a Ford ranger front suspension swap and just play it as i go. I normally can figure out something as I go in lue of months of seeing it on paper. Plus it's a donor truck, so whatever right?

if you lift the body, how would you modify the steering column boot so it will still bolt to the floor?

All you so is take it loose and punch new holes.

Performance Accessories makes a 3"body lift kit for 2nd gen trucks, for Dodge D-50; Andy's Auto Sport (http://www.andysautosport.com/products/performance_accessories__3023.html#Product%20Detai ls).
This kit includes the directions for cutting the body for the steering column, a steering column extension and a cover plate for the original steering column hole.

Sure, that cover plate will bolt to the floor where the boot used to bolt to. The boot, however, will still have to be bolted to the floor or the column will flop around like a fish in a bucket. That boot will have to be modified to get it to bolt down flush to the floor. Not hard to do with an angle grinder.
