have 1986 ram 50 2 liter; was smoking so removed head and apparently need to replace gasket. the piston cylinders were full of milky oil and water. the middle two head values were heavily coated whereas the 1 and 4 cylinders were burnt grey. did not find break old gasket or no cracks in head. suggestions?

Did you ever overheat the engine by any chance. If I didn't find any breaks or cracks I would suggest using a straightedge to make sure that the block and the cylinder head are still straight with no warpage.

will do, thanks. Also there is a timing "rubber" belt; how to make sure timing is set correctly when the head is put back on? thanks.

I've used information from that link and even enjoy reading it in my free time.

thanks, need all of the information that I can get as I am not a mechanic and am working on replacing the head gasket on my 87 D 50 2.0 Liter.
Was smoking and finally would not start. pulled head off and milky oil was in 2 and 3. Head straight, not warped, so ordered head gasket and will install. Boy o boy is there a lot of vacuum lines on the carb. Hope I can get them all back. what if I can't?
There should be a diagram for the vacuum lines somewhere here. Maybe even in a chiltons manual. I'm not sure if they do it on these mitsubishis but I know alot of the mazda guys replace the carb with a weber and it so much more simple and really cleans up the engine bay.
