So here's another question for you guys.

I have the engine on a stand and it is currently upside down. I was going through the manual and I see where it says the silent shaft sprocket should naturally fall around the timing mark.

When I looked at mine (oil pump) I noticed that it did in fact sit on the timing mark. But wait a minute, the engine is upside down. Shouldn't it be 180 out? So I flipped the engine right side up and now it was 180 out.

That can't be right, can it?

I never had any problems with engine vibrations.

Remember this is on the oil pump. As this is gear driven at a ratio 3:1 you need to turn it until the gear alignment mark decides it wants to balance itself and line up with the notch on the sprocket. Easy to botch up especially if it's assembled with the belt on - you will only know by removing the inspection bolt on the side of the block and passing a screwdriver through it.

Yep, that was it. Its not a free-wheeling shaft. It will "hang" in a couple of positions so you have to help it out. :)

I found that out today when I was working on the front case.

It's also crucial that the alignment dimples on the oil pump gears are set facing each other during pump assembly or you've got no hope...

I saw that in the manual but I already knew that.

However, I pulled the oil pump and there are no dimples!
