Hey guys,

I searched the forum and found only one thread on headlight swaps (from dual to single) that had 10 replies on it, but it didn't have many details. I'm wanting to swap the single headlights on an 81 D50 for the dual setup. Is this relatively possible without a lot of fabrication?

Thanks

The process is reverse of the dual to single. You need the assemblies from a dual headlight truck, add the pigtails for the high beams, and r and r the headlight mounting plate assemblies. a matching grille will also be needed, or fabbing a custom grille.

Did you check the inner lamp panel? Have seen some that do not have provision for quad lamps

^that needs to be taken into consideration. You might be able to drill out the spot welds and fit the quad headlight mounting frame but you might not have the clearance to get the headlights in and also be able to plug/unplug them.

US models should have the dual holes behind the mounting plate for clearance - I know Geronimo has them and he is an 1980. Mitsubishis after 1983 may not have the dual light core support. Contact Bradmph about the single to dual swap - his truck is a Mitsu with the 4 headlight conversion.

My '85 has the dual headlight factory fitted. The outer headlight recesses are elongated and wider so at a guess it was designed to clear the 5x7" headlight. I doubt then that Mitsubishi would bother having different panel dies for the inner support panel through the same generation of truck. I was thinking about this thread and decided the easiest way to come to a conclusion was to just look at it and it looks like this was the reason why they pressed it out like this. Some markets may never had the dual lights, like eastern Europe

Mitsu trucks in the US had single headlights from 83 - 86 to be different from the Dodge Trucks. Don't have a Mitsu truck 1st gen to look at, so I don't know if they are punched for 1 hole or 2.

My 81 has the 2 round holes in the inner

The 83 I scrapped had quad lamps

Just checked my factory parts manual. If you have an inner panel with just a rectangular hole it takes single lamps, but you can fit a larger tropical rated radiator
