Hey guys, I was able to get my hands on a Ram 50 recently. I'm in the process of grabbing it from a friend, it was a great deal I couldn't pass up. It's an 86 Ram 50 2wd with the 5spd manual.
Anyway, I've been doing some digging on the forums and the web and decided to go with a 318 swap since it seems like a pretty simple V8 swap and my brother is a Mopar nut so I can utilize his help.
I was just wondering what I'll need, I already know that I'll need new mounts but was wondering if the tranny will bolt up and can handle the power. So basically what I'm wondering is what I'll need besides the motor and what kind of work I should be expecting to do to get it done.
Thanks!

Hi and welcome to mightyram. A member tackled a 360 swap and they did a beautiful job of it - check out their build here (http://www.mightyram50.net/vbulletin/showthread.php/7409-1986-Dodge-Ram-50-360-swap)

I absolutely love that build, I've seen a couple of the other ones floating around too. I don't really have that extensive of a toolset or garage space though so I was looking to see if a 318 would fit without any cutting or any heavy modifications.

That is such an awesome build. I don't have extensive garage space or a huge toolset either so I was wondering if a 318 would be better so I could avoid cutting and heavy modifications.

And are there any v8's that will bolt up to the KM 5spd trannys?

Nope. You'll need a full drivetrain swap and a custom tail shaft to get it into the truck. When you do an engine swap like this, there will be fabrication work involved.

Why not a Chevy swap. More support and cheaper hp

Mopar swap is easier - mopar is rear sump like original, LS is front sump and no rear sump pan available. With 904 auto you may not need to mod tranny hump either.

I wanted to stick with Mopar since it's a Dodge badged truck. And I also want to stick with manual since I want all that power available to me. I was thinking NV3500.
