my new mitsu has r12,but needs a recharge,how do i swap to r134a?

nope go to Pep Boys or what ever an get a R12A recharge kit. you get the 134 fitting to go on the low pressure side of the ac. install it and recharge the ac with the can(s) that come in the kit http://www.ebay.com/itm/AIR-CONDITIONING-Recharge-Retrofit-Kit-ENVIROSAFE-/150621296699

he means an r12 to 134a conversion kit - no one is allowed to sell a recharge kit with r-12 and at 100 per lb you don't want to pay it.

Nope R12a is a replacement for R12 and is compatible with R134. I use the kits all the time to recharge old systems or top up the new systems. When R12 was taken off the market you could only do a full R134 conversion and that was stupid money. about 9-10 years ago a Company named Duracool came out with R12a and was passed for consumer sales from auto parts stores around the world except the USofA as it was a Canadian company. About 5 or so years ago the US EPA finally approved it to be sold in the US

my brothers shop can recharge with r12 its 30 bucks a can, shops just need to have an ASE certified tech. thats what i was last told

Which is the r12a - there was 1 type of replacement freon that was so flammable that if it sprug a leak and hit a hot surface(exhaust) it would ignite like a blowtorch.

Yep that's what the EPA said about it as it is a propane based coolant. In test after test it never "flashed" till they put almost 200lbs of the gas inside the car with an open flame. that's 100 times more then what a car usually has in the whole system. The reason behind it not being allowed into the US was it was not a US company that invented it. Funny how it was excepted in Austraila, Germany, the UK and Japan but not the US.According to the EPA no "flammable liquids can be used in a passenger vehical" well I guess you can't have Gas or brake fluid in your car then.

in California they are going to try and mandate that by 2025 25% of the cars sold in the state will be all electric. Here we go again...
