So I decided to overhaul the carb on my 1987 Ram 50 because it was dumping gas and flooding the engine. But now, after the overhaul, its doing the same thing. It literally leaves a puddle of gas in the manifold after just a few seconds of cranking. All gaskets, seals, o-rings and needle/seat are new. I verified the needle is definitely closing and sealing. Staring down the carb while someone cranks i can see the gas seems to be coming from inside the primary venturi.

Both the main jets are stock and the passages are clear. What else could cause gas dumping out of the venturi? The carb is a Mikuni Solex 30-32 on a 2.0l with a manual trans. Anything else I should try before giving up and switching to a Weber?

Something is holding the float down

Try placing the carb on the bench. Run a line from the carb to a gas can elevated about 5 feet above it. Start a siphon and put the line on. You can use some vice grips as a valve. Then look to see where it comes from.

Checked it out by filling the bowl, connecting a hose to the fuel inlet and attempting to blow through it. The needle seems to be sealing.

but you need 5 psi. Something is not sealing. Or the idle cut off is leaking badly

Have to try that tomorrow, thanks for the tips. Checked the idle cutoff, but only to see if it was clicking. No idea if it is sealing.

You should check your fuel pump pressure. It might be too high no more then 5, 3 - 5 is good
