Replacing stock carb with Weber

I have read on here that alot of the trucks are taking off the expensive pain in the rear to repair factory carbs. I know that I would have to add a block off plate and a Electric fuel pump. My Question is how will the Weber affect my current MPG? I bought a Weber carb with the adapter plate. The 34G. As of right now I get about 28MPG in the city........Its a small 2.0 with a 5 speed.

Should stay the same or improve if you keep your foot out of it. If it is working that good, why change it? That is great mileage for these trucks; I would leave it alone until it breaks.

Well Actually I want to replace it because my High Idle kicks in everytime I start the truck. And its HIGH. I'd have to crank the truck let it idle for 5 mins. As long as I keep my foot off the gas pedeal when I crank it I'lll be fine. Any Temps under 50 degrees I'd have to manually open the butterfly in the carb with a screwdriver and fight the truck for 5 mins to get it to start. Heck I bought the carb 2 yrs ago. Still sealed in the original bags and all.

In that case then, put it on. Its odd that you can't get the fast idle to adjust down to a normal rpm - is it all hooked up properly?

For the fast idle I was told that it was located behind the carb. I figgered that after I had spent $500 on a rebuilt factory carb from autozone that when it went again I'd try to find a Weber. Wished I had done that in the first place. But something tells me that my choke is defective. So hopefully in the next couple of weeks I can goahead and replace the carb. I was thinking of running the Electric Fuel pump off the igintion switch instead of having a kill switch. But @ the same time add a INLINE fuse somewhere along the line. The only question I would have with replacing the stock carb is where would be the best location to mount the fuel filter when I put the Fuel pump where the current filter is. I plan on using some diamond plate to build my block off plate for my current manual fuel pump. Any other advise would greatly be appreciated. I'm used to working on pre 85 VW's which I've owned.
