The short answer is yes and no - no, not directly, but they can be swapped if the mounts on the frames are made the same on the same wheelbase frame. The 1st gen frame is the same wb as a 2nd gen standard cab longbed and the 2nd gen ext cab short bed. There is no match for the 2nd gen standard cab short bed truck in a 1st gen.

You could cut down the 1st gen bed to fit, but you would have to cut off both ends to center the wheelwells

most of knowledge comes from 1st gen although I did have an 88 spacecab Ram 50 for about 2 years or so - most of the main parts are the same. Never had a 4wd, 2.4 or 3.0 - I have friends with 4d55s

g54b and 4sd auto - it also had a draw tite class 3 receiver hitch that became the rear crossmember by default when the spare tire cross member rotted away.

Who would want to interchange their cab onto where their bed was, and visa versa? (scratching head)

Brad you misunderstood I think, was talking about a body swap. VIN and title follows the number on the frame in California.

some people think they're funny - however I can think of a Chip Foose build of a Hot Wheels Deora II life size from a cadillac limo that was just that - swapped end for end on the same vehicle

Hey Pennyman, are there any big differences between RWD 1G and RWD 2G front ends, like steering linkage, control arms and spindles?

spindles are different but interchangeable - caliper placement is different, and so are the calipers. If you buy a set of aim drop spindles, they are of the 2nd gen design, but the 1st gen calipers will work on them, the dust shields from a 1st gen won't unless modified for the change in caliper position. Control arms are the same, as well as coil springs, balljoints, tierods, swaybar, strut rod and lca bushings. Idler arms differ on mounting location, pitman arms should be the same. Rotors differ as 1st gen are solid, 2nd gen are slotted - there is a slight difference in the rotors that prevents a 2nd gen rotor to run on a 1st gen truck without modification. I started to work out the 2nd gen swap of rotors, calipers and pads to a 1st gen, but to make it work, you need the 2nd gen spindle or the drop spindles from AIM. Hawk makes performance pads for the 2nd gen 2wd trucks, and they sell on ebay new for $9.00 a set - that was why I was doing the swap.
