You can rebuild it, the transmission is a 904 transmision used in chrysler cars and truck good to about 700hp with the right parts
You can get an overdrive automatic from a 87 up 2.0 ram 50 truck, but be sure to check the bolt spacing on the bell housing before you buy it. The 2.6 with a 3 spd auto is a narrow bolt pattern, but the 2.6 auto with OD is a wide bolt pattern. Another alternative is to change it out for a 5 spd maunal from a 2.0, although you also have to changeout the pedal setup and put a cable mount on the firewall to operate the clutch.

Rahtid You said the 904 was good for 700HP. Do you know how much the O.D. tranny that are in these trucks will take?
there are two O.D transmission, the a500 is a 904 with overdrive, i forgot the name of the other transmission but it a borgwarner it can hold 500-550 maybe even more just parts are harder to find, what are looking to do
I'm not going to do anything special right now. Just wondering how tough they are.
what year is the truck
The other tranny is an Aisin - same as a nissan 300zx. Force 10 has a shift kit for it. For more info, check out starquest forum - lots of info on both trannies there
