failed smog, need a cat part # for cali

needless to say, I failed smog today and they said I needed a new cat. Does anybody have a part # for the OEM cat on a 1990 mighty max v6 4wd.

Ive searched all over the internet and I keep finding these universal ones, that don't have flanges on them. I'd really like to not deal with that.

You must have a cat that is listed with the BAR. There the only legal ones allowed in Cali. Your best bet it to go to a muffler shop and have them stick one in. They won't give you back the old one. State law says they must keep it for 15 days. And they will give you a tag that you will need to show the SMOG shop to prove it is a legal one.
There not worth anything to recycle. Trust me. it's not worth the hassle even trying to recycle it. No one will take it.
Make sure they put it on with the serial numbers so they can be seen easily.

Go on the DMV/B.A.R. website and they have a list of approved manufacturers and which of their cats to use to be legal in CA. I had to look this info up a few years back when doing an engine swap.

Mods...was not trying to be argumentative,
just asking as I have heard the " you need a new cat" lots of times
over the 35 years I have had My Ca. Smog License (and recently Inspector I license).
and was curious to look at the readings.
    Thx.
