Yes it is a interference motor unfortunaly but if you have your marks all lined up and all it should be fine.

are you positive? My 2.4 seized a cam and ate the belt one winter. i replaced both and have been driving for a over a year with no troubles.
i mention this because the 2.0 and 2.4 are for the most part the same block. just a thought.

Well the dohc 4g63 is interference so I would guess that the g63b would also be. And I heard that the 4g64 was also but not 100% sure.

kool thanks for your guys help. Now ive got another question i need to know if i have burnt valves or broken rings. did a compression test today and here are the results #1 152 #2 160 #3 0 #4 163

sounds like a bent valve in #3
did you pull off the valve cover and look at the valve tails? to see if any seemed lower than the rest.
-
Wikipedia says the 4g64 8 valve engines are non-interference. And so is the g63b from what I can find on the net. So I retract my previous post.

yes i did pull the valve cover i also took my calipers out and did a few quick measurments and found out theres only a difference in .05 open and .03 closed but that only doing it with it in the head and trying to measure in or near the same spots also i used #1 as my reference so who knows went its day light ill try to get a video of it and post it up

LSRMike saves the day with his knowledge once again. Another example that you cant believe everything on the internet. Now if we can just have someone confirm that the g63b is or isnt.

The 2.0 and 2.4 8 valve engines are non interference motors if the engine hasn't been modified(high compression pistons, high lift camshaft, head shaved, over sized valves, having the blocked decked)with one or two of the combination listed, or you over rev the engine by putting it in the wrong gear

Hmm, if you are doing some head work, before you torque your head down, Time the engine, then try to turn the cam (without the belt), and see if the head lifts up. Just an Idear.

my Brother has a 90 MM 2.4 that was most certainly an interference engine, it jumped time and bent the valves had to have his head rebuilt.
