    Need MSD help...FAST!

Got it all hooked up finally, but get no spark to the plugs. Troubleshooting tests say box is fine. Are these trucks Hall Effect? I didn't think they were, I have 2 wires (green negative and black/white positive), Hall should have 3...

I used teh magnetic pickup lines (green and violet) for the MSD, do I need to run the white wire to + and then ground out the - wire?

All my connections are solid, but no happiness when I crank.

you dont use the magnetic pickup lines. The coil wires should be orange and black (i think) and should come out in the same harness as the main power/ground/etc. I believe the smaller white and red wire connect to the wires coming from your dist. If I can find the diagrams I made when wiring my 6al box in the isuzu i can tell you for sure.

Will throw in some pics, may help?

The Dizzy (can see Black/White +, Green - on the igniter):

The coil (Blaster2, can see Orange to +, Black to -. Used the old ballast as a distribution post):

    Have power to the box!

    Edit:

The small red wire is ignition switch. That leaves the white as a signal wire, or the magnetic pickup, and I still have 2 wires from the dizzy to deal with.

Got til tomorrow to get it right, but I'd like to fire up the new subwoofer and I'm not doing that without the engine turning!

Thats how you wire it on a Starion/Conquest. I'd imagine something similar.

ah that box is way different than mine. The people at msd were pretty helpful when I had problems with mine. After a few emails they even called me and we figured it out over the phone

Same as the .pdf instructions from MSD and no, no happiness. Unhooked it cuz I had to go to the store. Have a support ticket in, we'll see what MSD has to say about it this week, I hope.

I may have spoke too soon, that Doc has a lot more stuff in it....and I found directions for a pertronix ignitor. Should be similar if not the same? AND? It looks almost the same as what mighty posted, just a couple tweaks for the different box. May try it out later.

Ignition up and running right and proper. Posting the schematic for those in the future, almost the same as Mighty's anyway, though.

On my truck, the hot wire for the Dizzy was black/white and the ground was green.

Gray wire on the MSD box is tach signal (not shown).

Nice to hear of your news. The 86 factory manual does say B-w is the dist.
Did you see that LSD i posted, it's at Burnside Auto wrecking @90th Burnside for $115.
It will bolt up in the rear, using your ring and pinion.

How is your truck running now, it has smell much leaner

You can always call them.. I talked to them at length on my project, and about there recommendations for my truck. The call was answered with in 30 seconds. I was impressed. This goes the same for Edlebrock, Fox, Holley, Stewart water pumps, Comp Cams, K&N Filters, D&D Transmission. I have called them all. Great companies.

@Camoit- I've posted 3 times on the MSD forums and emailed em at least 4 times with only 2 answers that were useless. Will never buy an MSD product again, and I don't care how well they work. Okay, I MIGHT buy the Dizzy lockout timing module...

@Rickdees- PM incoming...I think I got you now? BTW, update Adobe for .pdf...= )

Try this if you haven't. Use page 11 of your PDF. Violet to the pick up + your black/white Green - to your green. Do not use the white wire, just ignore it. Under the cap for the cylinder select cut the red and blue, if you havent yet. Remove the resistor from the system completely. Do not hook up a wire for the tach until you get it running. Just make it as simple as you can. If that does not work then it might be the pick up coil not making the correct voltage.

Was the first thing I did, man. With the ignitor it didn't work. Had to set it up mostly like the stock. 12v off ignition to the + side, white for signal off the - side. If you can think of stock inductive coil, it's pretty much the same. Gotta have power to the + on the Dizzy. Violet/green on the MSD has no 12v to the Dizzy, only a signal loop.

So can you draw up and post a diagram of how you have it wired for us?
