How to set ignition timing/ total advance timing

Hello guys i have a pretty newbie question;basically i need to set my timing before i do smog and i need to know the timing specs. I believe ignition timing is 5 degrees BTDC but im not sure about "total advance timing" ( im lacking in terminology) or how to set it. Also do i have to put it in "timing mode"? Im fairly new at working on vehicles so any and all help would be awesome and thanks in advance😀

Here is my build info on your question, with pictures. My 4G64 is set at 7 degrees BTDC.
