85 custom D50 2.6 liter need coil pics

my wife recently purchased an 85 d50 custom 2.6 liter and the coil is bad. she got a new one but it is different than the one that was on it . the old one had one wire with a post and the new one has both + and - post. it also has a ballast resistor. she had to order a manual but I would like to get it running....need a good coil wiring diagram pic.....

Hi and welcome to mightyram. It's strange that your coil only has one polarity post (might not be the original unit as I'm 99% sure all of Mitsubishis oil filled ignition coils have both posts). Is the distributor using old school breaker points?

However the distributor is rigged to work it will be connected to the positive post on the coil. The other end of the pick up must be earthed to the body of the distributor somehow. Next question - does your instrument panel have a tacho built into it?

All 87-96 coils I've seen have been as the original poster stated, ground wire is hard wired to coil and connects to ballast, while the positive for coil has a stud and goes to dist. and ballast.
