would it be easier to take the bed of the truck off to install one?
would it be easier to take the bed of the truck off to install one?
Not in my opinion. I changed mine to a Walbro 255 by dropping the tank while on jackstands. I didn't have room to remove and store the bed.
It was easier to drop the tank, and do all the Maintenance and changes and stick it back in.
how hard is to to drop the tank ? and any pre-cautions i should take before doing so?
Just make sure to run it down to nearly empty before dropping the tank. It's not that bad of a job. 1 hour and your done. Unless you find other things you need to do.

well my truck doesnt run right now and i have about a half a tank lol..... what other repairs should i do while im down there?
since your fuel pump is not in the tank, you don't need to drop the tank, just mount it to the upright bed support near the fuel filter mount. See the blogs about the fuel pump install - the truck he is doing is a 1st gen, but the frame is very similar.
