If I lived in an alternate reality I'd build a old school truck. A 50's style pick up would be my dream machine like a '55 F100 or a Chev 3100. They've got such a beautiful classic look to them...

My ultimate dream pickup is an early 1950's Studebaker 2R series pickup with a 1950 Studebaker Commander front clip grafted on, for the bullet nose pickup that should have been...

I've always had a thing for 1950's automotive design, the retro-futuristic rocket-ship styling is a close second to my true love... Late 60's and early 70's muscle cars have my heart.

my dream truck has always been a shark nose 37 Willis pickup. I know where one is at, fully restored with a 6.0 out of an SUV swapped in it.

that is actually the GMC I was telling you about that broke down on me, its up on all fours again. you literally have to pull the head to take the lifters out, and good luck breaking loose an exhaust manifold bolt. so it had to be unbolted at the cat. while I was at it I replaced the *most likely* original spark plugs, wires, coils, and injectors and I got a tune on it that won't collapse the lifters. and it adds like an additional 50 HP.

anywho, dad was given a 59 apache 3100 short bed fleetside pickup for his birthday. it had sat like 5 years. it had the L46 stingray motor and a 4 speed overdrive in it with comaro suspension. it needed taillights and a fender and some love, but we just never found time. so we bought a short bed Chevy pickup frame with 38's and the LSX with a 4 speed 4L85E but something came up and dad had to sell both the frame and truck because his job laid him off for 6 months. I would sell my mitsu to have that old Chevy back, it was one of my few favorite trucks Chevy made.

1976 Ford F100 Custom. It has absolutely 0 options, even a base model had a cigarette lighter port, which this one doesn't have. It's absolutely the cheapest. It was a giveaway truck back in 1976 at a raffle at a private school. The guy I bought it from is my neighbor. His dad got it and drive it hardly ever. My neighbor inherited it in 2012 and has drove it twice. Ford 302/3 On The Tree Manual/3.00 rear end.

My plan is to lower it, get an exhaust and an intake on it, higher compression pistons, GT40 or Cobra heads, X303 cam and firing order swap, and a radio in. And clearcoat the current paint to keep that nice patina to it. And put carpet flooring and LED lights in it.

That's an extremely clean old pickup! Here in the Pacific Northwest, that thing would be Swiss cheese. Those are still one of the most popular pickup (body style) in our area. The 76-79 Ford pickups really seem to hold their value. Great find!

Hummmmm..... Crown Vic front IRS, 4 Speed AOD, Flip rear axle,Rust repair, body work, repaint 3.50-373gears...................

Ok here we go... you can't use a roller cam (B-303,E-303,X-303) in a none roller block. You have to go with a retro fit cam or a 84-85HO cam. Then use a set of roller rockers. The GT-40 heads need to come off a pre 96 Explorer the GT-40P heads needed a special exhaust manifold that was only made for the explorer. If you are doing a piston swap than go with the 86-93 5.0L Flat tops.Use a 67-71 double roller chain for the timing gears (pre smog so not 4deg retarded). Ditch the Carb and go with an EFI set up (FI Tech, MSD Atomic, etc.), MSD 6A box with a recurved distributor. Nice set of shorty headers (better for low end grunt) you should be able to push just over 300hp with a set up like that.

No. Dream Beams, 5 speed Manual, leave the axle alone, has no rust at all, needs no body work, I prefer the patina look, has a 3.70:1 gear.

I have a foxbody engine to swap, so there is those beans. I want to avoid a ton of woring so I'll slap a street avenger on and be happy there. I've seen too many trouble out of electronic ignition systems that I'll keep it simple and reliable and cheap with a points type. And long tube headers with super 10 mufflers and turn out before the front of the back tire.

Then drop it 2" and set it on some 275 60 15 tires and 15x10 bullet hole rims. 4 rear drop 2 front drop.

Then replace the vinyl floor w carpet and put a radio and some power brakes and rear disc brakes.

I like your ideas but I've already got a plan for it. A plan I've had before I even had a PR50.

Oh, LED lights all around and eventually a supercharger.

Thanks for the tips on the engine build. It is an 8:1 engine, so I doubt it would have good compression with a large head. Either way it's getting the 89 mustang 302 swap with the tremec 600 gear box.

Nice so it's a roller block already Whats nice about that is you could stay with the EFI as the EEC-IV system could be swapped out of the Mustang. Just strip anything not engine related out of the harness and you have a stand alone. Or get a Megasquirt stand alone and convert to mass Air.

I've done it both ways,The Speed density systems don't like large cams (89-down) but are great for most other mods.Megasquirt is inexpencive and work great, you can convert to mass air and put as big a cam as you like

I'm not running speed density and EFI and FI and all that. A simple 700 or 800 carb and intake will be trouble free and simple. Sure a EFI is easier to daily but I still have the mew ford festiva I drive. It's a 92 model and it gets like 45 MPG like my last one, that's my daily. This is my 'show truck' if you will. I would only take it out like twice a week or so and that's it. And then to car shows and to pull a trailer with. I may do air bags in the back when I start pulling the trailer and towing cars but otherwise it's a solid plan. Also considered a 385 engine swap. That would be better for pulling. Idk yet, I'm just gonna get the brakes fully functioning and get the carb rebuilt so it'll idle and I'm gonna drive it till I get money to fix it like I want it.

shorty tuned lengh headers, x pipe, super 40 mufflers, and quad resonator tips, and a new dash panel with a radio cutout.

the engine i got has a few things done to it: 10:1 pistons, 289 connecting rods, 1.7 rockers, F303 cam, and explorer intake. ford parts though.

scratch the carb idea there, 4 2 barrels (real gt 40 intake) and a high lift cam and some 62cc 2" x 1.6" heads and 1.72 rockers

natural aspiration too, 4 carbuarators should be enough, as long as it fits under the hood. if not ill buy a cowl hood or another hood to cut the hole and get it wrapped

i want to get a wrap on it anyways

Here are a few pictures of the Ford trucks I’m currently working on:

1969 F100 Explorer Edition. My Grandfather bought this from the University of Arkansas in 1972, and it has been in the family ever since. 472 cu in BBF, C6 with low gear set, improved servos, etc. 3.25 9” with limited slip (washers under the preload springs to tighten it up). I just swapped over to front disc brakes, which turned into a nightmare, so it is down until I fix that problem….
    1969 F100.jpg

    1984 F250HD Centurion Conversion Dually

Bought this with a cracked block and I had just swapped out the 6.9 IDI/C6 for a Turbo 7.3IDI/E4OD when my agency closed their Huntsville facility and I had relocate…. It has been sitting ever since, so I still have a LOT of work to do…

Get rid of that old dura-spark and just go with a MSD 6a as you don't need a rev-limiter. Best upgrade you can do to an old Ford syetem
