    2.0 to 2.6 engine swap questions

    Has anyone swapped out from 2.0 to 2.6 engine with manual transmission in 1986 Mighty Max? I am at my wits end with pulling and repairing the 2.0 aluminum head.

    What other engine has anyone put in the 86 mighty Max?

    For 4 cylinder engines the Mitsubishi had the following - 4G32, 4G52, 4G54 (G54B/4G54B/4G54) G63B, 4G64. The 2.0 and 2.6 are different transmission mounting bolt patterns (2 litre is narrow, 2.6 is wide) What grief are you having with the G63B? There were inherent design flaws with the G63B, but it didn't suffer from head failures like the 2.6 (main issue with the G63B is oil flow)

    My dad bought the truck new and had the head off and rebuilt along with rings at about 40,000.

    I inherited the truck when he passed and have been keeping it going over the years. The #3 cylinder had valve seat problems three times since then. Last year I put a new forklift head on it and it’s gone about a year and now #1 cylinder is dead. I haven’t torn into it yet, but it’s definitely a head/valve issue and I’m done with this engine. I am an expert at pulling and replacing this shitty aluminum head.

    What is the oil pressure like? If the balance shaft bearings are toast it will cause a pressure drop to the head and the primary location of failure will be #1 cylinder big end and main bearings. The G63B heads are scant on oil pressure feed so when they experience a catastrophic oil pressure failure, it'll eat the cam journals and cam bearing faces, then the forward end of the crank will seize. Ain't pretty, but totally avoidable.

    Wasnt there a narrow block 2.6L? Unless even there the dimensions arent the same. Just get a tranny and the engine to boot. I have a KM132 I can pull and sell you. I am doing a 2.6 -> 2.6 swap (82 -> 87) and I have the tranny ready to come out if you want it. Make me an offer, it has 50ish k miles on it (original to truck too)

    the 2.6 auto trucks up to and including 1986 were narrow block motors - flywheel bolts right up to it.

    Did you end up doing this swap??? I have an 83 MM 4x4 that I am trying to put the 4 speed 4x4 transmission in (because as far as I can find it is the only narrow 4x4 transmission) anyways, the bell housing bolts up just fine but my throwout bearing doesn’t reach the diaphragm springs (and I’m for sure that it’s not a clutch cable issue) If you experienced anything like this in your swap or if you know why this might be happening I’m open to any advice!

    okay, just a couple of things. Small and large block. Are all the autos small? If so I have a good trans for an 86.
    also I believe all of the 5 speeds are the same internally, just the output shaft and the tail housing are different.
    Correct me if I'm wrong. Also the case, of course.
