Sounds like a great start in Tuba City boozehero ~ keep earning the big bucks as long as possible ~ after that life might become fixed income & boredom (or like me extra time being lazy) Nice that your truck is running good 'n dependable ~ we look forward to hearing about your adventures OK
    Mr. Lazy George
P.S. Do you use ROW52 to be notified when these type trucks are brought into the wrecking yards..? I do.

I am currently working at the only hospital within 300 square miles of the area. My schedule is crazy, so I don't have much time to continue work on the truck.
And... as usual, I also don't have a place to do truck work either...

Well, I replaced the front brakes with some serious upgrades...
And after that I kept hearing front end rattles
Dumbass me... I forgot to add the disc pad anti rattle clips.
So, I ordered larger rotors (Montero Sport) which are apparently bigger by a small mount that have the clips included.
I'll post some pix for anyone doing this upgrade

You're becoming awefully smart about vintage Mitsubishi boozehero ~ I recently learned where my break fluid was leaking from, the LSP & BV under the bed ~ howz the weather in Tuba City..?

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Giving away a bunch of free stuff... Just pay for shipping.

    1. Complete speedo cluster (No tach) for first gens 49,XXX miles on it
    2. Left and right tail light lenses. One has been repaired, but it's a good repair
The right lens comes with the rubber seal. Very usable.
    3. Complete driver tail light assembly The housing is cracked, but usable and repairable.
I did cut the wiring harness so that will have to be rewired
    4. 200mm sealed beam headlights. (2) - they are the large rectangular units.
    5. OEM carb for first gen. It was working, but I went to a Weber. It's clean and would probably bolt on and go.
    6. Lots of miscellaneous BS parts. A grab bag...

Also listed in the parts dept.

    Small update:
I've been hauling the replacement 5 speed transmission around for a while now.
I was in Washington State last April and found a (correct) tranny for the 2.0 in my truck.
I dragged it back too California, then to Nevada and to Arizona.
Well, it's time to install it.
I am NOT going to do the parking lot swaperoo. No ground grovelling.

I checked with a few places (like 2!) in Tuba burbia and found only one that would do the job.
It's at the shop, they have removed the old transmission and am hoping the truck will be done tomorrow.
    AND it works properly.

    Fingers crossed

I'll cross my fingers for you too (what's left of them anyway...) Only one shop will swap the transmission? In the grand scheme of things it's a relatively simple job to do if you have a hoist. If it was in a front wheel drive it'd be a PITA

    Thanks for the props Geezer.

Turned out way beyond any of my expectations.
The truck is much quieter, this transmission makes no noise. The synchros are cool too.
At 75 MPH, the tach reads close to 800 RPM less. HUGE difference, needless to say.
Don't know how accurate the tach/speedo is, but it sure as hell sounds a crap ton better at similar speeds as before.
I didn't push it as hard as I could yet, but the speedo goes almost around to zero an a flat road, and there was more left

Paid a little heavily for the labor, but it's done and I didn't have to do the parking lot dance.
I'm also not hauling another 70 lbs across the country.

Good Job hero..! Am assuming no shop did any work on the 5 speed tranny other than installing it..? Finding or knowing of a shop that does overhauls on these transmissions would be a nice thing to know... If he offered free shipping, I might consider asking geezer to make my tranny like new..!

Hell... NO. The freight would be bankruptingly expensive alone. I haven't completely stripped down a 5 speed transmission before (did a 3 speed on a Ford 100E Prefect though lol) You would get back a sterile transmission though. Good for a conversation piece in your lounge room...

When I buy a manual shift transmission, if it has an inspection cover, I open it and look at the internals. If there is plenty of metallic crap in the bottom, I would reject it.
I took off the bottom plate on this 5 speed, no metal. All of the gears were sharp with no chipped teeth, and the synchros still had sharp teeth on them.
Turns out the tranny is good. Everything works properly and it's quiet.

The biggest improvements on this truck are -
    1. Header / large exhaust
    2. Weber conversion and pollution component elimination
    3. Convert from 4 speed to 5 speed.
    4. Update from 14" to 16" alloy wheels and 'V' rated performance tires

It's almost like driving a sports car

I... what? As you would expect from a country that the unit of engine output is measured in cows and not horses. A quad bike would be safer That brake upgrade you did boozehero will have the stop part of the equation covered and you definitely have the go part sorted out. Nice

India is in a bracket of their own. For the most part, they don't drive much faster than 60 km.
That sport truck is a riot.

The brakes - I found that the 97 Montero rotors are slightly larger than the MM counterparts. This will mean the the brake pads will not overhang the rotors.
I ordered a set with new ceramic pads and the anti rattle clips.
I was wondering why the truck was making front end noise when I went over bumps - DUH.

    SILENCE!!
When I first bought this truck, the driver window riser mechanism was junk.
I bought a used replacement and installed it. I also bought new window track felt and installed that (From Thailand, where else?).
I didn't realize that the rear corner top of the glass was not seated properly causing crappy wind noise.
I lived with that for almost 9 months.

Well, today I pulled the door card off and adjusted the window.
Amazing how quiet the interior is now.
The exhaust still is noisy, but it's worth it for the power improvement.
The transmission is totally quiet, so the combination of no wind noise and quiet tranny is excellent.

Also had the tires rotated. $13. Not worth doing it myself.
I had a front end alignment, but I think the camber is still not right. The front tires are wearing on the outer edge.
They are super high performance tires - soft compound, but they only have about 6K miles on them.
    Oh well...

Well, tomorrow is a paid day off to prep to drive/tow the S10 (race truck) to Baton Rouge.
1,300 miles, leaving early Friday morning, and if all goes well, I'll be in BR by Saturday afternoon.
I have to drive to Page, AZ, to rent a tow dolly. I'm loading the S10 onto the dolly when I return, and be ready to go early AM.
I'll be putting the D50 on Ice when I reach BR, until I return from Christmas at my farm.

I'm going to drag out my '78 Dodge Dakota, rent a U Haul trailer and pack the baby tight with a crap ton of stuff.
I'm then going to drive another 1200 miles to my farm and unload all of the stuff into one of my barns. I hope I make it before Christmas. Fingers crossed.

When I return to BR, the fire sale will start.
I'll be selling my 85 BMW 535, the Dakota, the '90 Ford Ranger 5.0 Moo truck, one of (1990) S10s, another one of my S10s, and stuff.
I might sell one of my Harley Sportsters (1999) and a few built engines.
I'll also break out the Dune Buggy, set up the 1985 TVR 280i, (hot cam, custom built hp heads, 4 barrel intake - dumping the crap Bosch K Jetronic fuel infection), and other stupid projects I've had sitting forever.

    It's time.

one question for you - what gear oil did the shop put in your transmission? It has to be GL4, GL5 will eat the synchros in this tranny.

    Wow, been a while!
Made it back to Baton Rouge, was not a fun drive

I currently have a 3.91 rear gear. Looking to go to a 3.55.
I was shocked to go to a 5 speed, TOTALLY changed the cruising speed at high way speeds.
Going to 3.55 will make this rig at cruise at 80 with an RPM close to 2700.
    Totally

I live in Baton Rouge during the winter.
The drive was terrible because of mountains. I had to go to second gear on occasion. When I finally made it to Texas, flat roads - I could do 70 MPH.
I used Lucas synthetic gear oil. I'll have to look for GL4. The only place I could find it is at NAPA or online.
I am going to buy the replacement transmission support plate from the guy who makes them. I'll change the juice when I do.

Another funny - I strapped this tub to the shop dyno for a laugh.
AND I did get a laugh.
Care to guess ho many ponies the truck made?

    75!
Which means about 90 at the crank.

That is with the Weber and big exhaust.
Wonder what it was before the mods...
    50? Maybe?

I took a pic of the graph readout on the dyno. I'll post later since it is a total PIA to upload pix on this forum.

I also added the ($$$$) Bell Tech front sway bar and installed anti rattle hardware on the brake pads.
    HUGE difference!

Next mod is finding a 3.55 differential and installing it. Everyone on eBay wants way too much for a diff.
Not easy finding one at a Upull either. Most are 3.91.

    Penny - any suggestions?

You should be getting more than that out of the engine. They are making close to that in stock form so it can only come down to jetting and tune. Or they didn't set up the dyno right (no idea, I'm not familiar with dyno runs...) I don't recall if you'd fitted headers. On a sweeter note it made it through some rough conditions to get to Texas. The sway bar was worth the investment and it'll only keep on giving
