Wow! ...what a collection, sprinkled with a hefty dose of oddballs. Your very own toyland. Lucky devil

cut my teeth on buick V6s. Built a 4.1 as per Ruggles V6 guide.
Some guy Tyler @Ruggles had an inglese setup with the 3 downdraft carbs for sale
Tempting, but the "boost bug" already bit me, so my future had to have a buick grand national in it obviously

Been a few days since a last post...
This rig has had a dud fuel gauge since I bought it. I finally found out how it works...
And how do you suppose that happened?
I went to Seattle this last weekend, drove to the Reno A/P and parked. The fuel gauge read "E"
When I returned to pick up the truck. it started right up. I drove about 10 yards, and the truck quit.
    Yez, no juice.
It was almost midnight, no gas can, no transport back and forth, so I rented a car and drove to the hotel.
Summit Racing has a warehouse/store in Sparks, NV - small world - I had bought one of their racing fuel jugs.
Anyway, filled the jug, filled the truck, returned the rental and was done. Just a minor cluster in my life.
    Oh, and "E" MEANS "E".
Don't know if anyone has rented a car lately... They have DOUBLED in price. One day rental - $88!!!!
    And Gov't rate? $136!!

Looking at the upull yards (don't know how I missed it) a 1981 Plymouth Arrow was posted in the Sparks, Nevada yard. It was placed on 6/26, so it might be all bones by now. The pic showed a camper cover on the bed, I'd probably bag it for travel - if it's still there. I am really hoping the truck has A/C, it has the 2.0 litre engine which would be the right brackets.
I'll be going there this weekend and hoping for the best.

That's not the way you want to find out your fuel sender is a dud. Hopefully the Arrow truck is still there and mostly intact. I would hope that the demand for those parts would be pretty low and they don't have a fast stock turn over. Stings when a truck like that gets crushed just because it was sitting there for 2 months...

Hooley shee-it Well, that's one way to keep the stoners out of a rental car... you could buy a jalopy for that price and drive it into the dirt.

    WOWOW ^^^
I don't anticipate going to Hawaii, but it wouldn't be out of the question.
If there is a presidential disaster declaration, I could be sent there.
    Been there a few times.
I guess if i did go, I would ship my truck there.
    Maybe sell it on island...

Went to the upull yard yesterday.
There is a 1981 Plymouth Arrow Sport there. I was really hoping it had A/C...
    It USED to.
The only part left of the A/C system is the dash with the HVAC controls and the idler pulley assembly.
A previous owner removed almost everything. The only part I can use is the idler pulley assembly which wasn't removed.
One real bonus... It has a factory clock! I bet it doesn't work, but I'll grab it anyway.
The truck also has an 80s camper cap on it in reasonably good condition. I'll grab that too - for traveling.
It has the G52B (2.0) engine in it which looks pretty much complete. I don't know if it's a 4 or 5 speed.
Anyway, I have several pix of it which I will post later.

Hoard anything you know you won't find later. Is it an analog clock? They aren't terribly bad to pull apart and restore. The engine is worth grabbing just for the head. Did they rip out the evaporator from under the dash? This is the hardest part to find. Know you've already got one but the day someone else is looking for one, you're going to be a popular guy. Does the Arrow Sport still have the factory bucket seats and door cards?

    Biggest issue...
I have barns in NY State and storage in Baton Rouge. It will be a serious act to haul all of this stuff across country.
I still have too much stuff already (in a storage unit in Carson City).
I also have a new head (G52B 2.0) that is non Jet valve from another MM project that I sourced incorrectly. It's an even port head that was new when the engines were more popular. I had a twin port engine in the project. I was sort of ig back then.

The clock appears to be digital with vacuum tube numerals. I'm going to grab the entire dash panel with everything attached.
I wish I could grab th whole truck, but it just isn't possible.
If anyone needs anything, I'd be happy to grab and send.

It's a digital vacuum fluourescent display (VFD). Think they were an option in later model Royals(?) And cool - very cool

More pix of the weekend junkyard visit:

    1981 Plymouth Arrow:

    Arrow dash with clock:

Arrow Camper top. Not my favorite style, but will be good for travel. I can remove it when not over the road.

    Anybody need some hub caps?

It's really sad to see these trux in bone yards. All of the trux I've seen here are rust free (some surface rust but no rot)
    I could easily restore this.
I feel sorry for Geezer... It would be half the work to make a truck like this one drive-able again.
No rust always makes things easier.

I'm not sure if that is a factory clock. They are installed from the back of the bezel and have a small knob you twist to adjust hour and minute. I went fishing for the picture I took of my clock (it has a full acrylic face with a small instruction decal embossed around the adjusting knob)

Nice job on the dash Mr. Geezer. ^^^
I am not familiar with these clox, so I can't say. It fits in the correct hole though.
Next week when I go back, (if it's still there) I will grab all of the stuff I need and post pic of the clock.
It sure looks like a factory unit.

Thanks. The PO butchered the dash bezel to fit a single DIN head unit (with something - a steak knife...?) so I deleted the stereo and cleaned up the slot to add those gauges. It was a 'Royal', so it had the fake brushed finish stainless steel decal around the bezel which had turned nasty. I hand trimmed a new one out of self adhesive carbon look film (*that brushed finish film is available on ebay if you look for it) All it took was a sharp blade and a steady hand.

*the location for the clock had 4 different options for inserts - a block off plate, a change pocket, the analog clock and the digital clock.

Any Gen 1's that end up in yards here are badly messed up or picked clean. I've seen one or 2 on private properties that were in decent shape, only to see them get carted away for scrap You can tell that truck you've been eyeballing is an early one due to the location of the wiper control switch. If the tail lights aren't busted grab them (even if it's only for the backing cases and the lens seals) Even has the full set of stock hubcaps! I'd be all over this if I had a chance...

^^^ I will be going to the Upull this weekend. They are having a 50% off sale.
I grabbed a few of the clips already, I'll take the rest when I return.
    Xbox,
PM me with your address and I'll send them to you.

The smoke in Carson City has been so bad during some days that people drive with their headlights on. The fires are about 50 miles away, so the smoke can be very bad when the wind blows from the South West.

If I lived here, I would try to buy the complete truck. It looks like I could install a battery and with wheels/tires, I could drive it.
It went into the yard in June... and nothing has been stripped from it. Shows you how popular these trux are.

A killer - I was speaking to a guy who evacuated from the fire near South Lake Tahoe... He said there was a diesel MM for sale in Reno for $3500.
It was on the local Craig's list. I checked and it was gone.
    Dammit.
I would have bought it and shipped it home.
Guess it wasn't meant to be.

Just checked up on the fires in Nevada and Lake Tahoe - a state of emergency has been declared, residents told to evac the area. Scary.

It's sad to see a decent vehicle end up in a yard just because it is outmoded. A compact truck like that would work for someone all day and cost beans to keep running and fix

PM to hero on my list of things to do ~ thanks hero for the fire/smoke info ~ my two nieces one in Reno & one in Sun Valley say the smoke is bad & they feel bad about all the animals 'n cats 'n dogs dying in the fires esp at breeder properties ~ I might be wrong but I bet no ski resorts or gambling casinos will burn down ~ private properties & small towns will never get the same fire fighting forces those big businesses are getting ~ rant over & THANKS boozehero

This is the first time that South Lake Tahoe had come this close to a fire emergency.
They evacuated 20K residents the other day. It's a ghost town now. I'm just the on the other side of the mountain, and when the wind blows from the south west, the fire smoke arrives big time in Carson City.
The other day, people had to use their headlights - the smoke was that thick.
I'm in an emergency operations center with constant fire monitoring. It also has clean air.
The sun is a red/orange blob in the sky most of the time, when the smoke is really bad, it almost disappears.

Welcome to the world of emergency management...

Labor day is here - again. Seems like the last one was 10 minutes ago. Where did the year go?
If everything works out, I will have a camper shell and a bunch of parts for this truck.
    Maybe even a working clock...

I would paint the camper top myself (to match the truck) but none of my equipment is here.
Maybe I'll see if I can find matching rattle can paint - but I want it to match and look like the rest of the truck. Shiny paint.
I 'll store the cap until I travel since it is so fugly. I also have to cut a piece of plexi glass for the back window.
    Guess I'll be busy.

I also ordered stainless brake lines from B Line - he's on the forum.
Surprised me that the business is located in Sparks, NV - 25 minute drive from Carson City.
As soon as the brake lines arrive, I will be installing the new front brake assemblies.

Another observation which I will be looking into - I have a Dana 44 posi disc brake rear axle assembly from an Isuzu Trooper that looks like a direct bolt into this truck. Same lug bolt pattern, looks like the same width too. Only problem is: the gear ratio is 4.30:1.
I know that they sell lots of different ring and pinion sets for these rears, maybe I can fit a 3.50 gear into it.
It would be a great upgrade

Went to the Upull yard on Saturday... Got the camper cap disconnected from the donor. One small problem, had no way to take it to the sales point. I couldn't lift it by myself, so, I guess I won't be buying it.

    On a better note:

Stainless brake lines arrived, they are beautiful.
I assembled everything and am going to try and install all of it today.
Somebody mentioned overhang of the pad to rotor, I looked and couldn't see any. I looked at another Montero at the upull, it had the identical rotors as the MMs. The only difference I could see was the dual piston calipers.
    More pix soon.

Shame about the camper lid. Surely they could got a forklift in the yard to move it for you. You get the camper cover, they get a sale - win/win. Brakes are seeeexy! Nothing says legit like braided lines
