    Not The First Time

Just joined a few days ago...
I am in Sacramento California on assignment for the Feds. I usually fly out to a job and buy a clean vehicle to drive home.
I have been looking for a decent rig to purchase for the last 2 months. Craigslist SUX!!!
I have been punked so many times.
I made appointments to see vehicles, drove 160 miles in some cases and the ahole sold the vehicle.
    This happened a few times.

Well... finally found something I could buy.

1979 D50, 136K original miles, 2 owner truck. Original paint that is in great shape (!) and untouched otherwise. No accidents and every receipt for work done including smog receipts and owner manual. It has the 2.0 liter even port engine with a noisy 4 speed tranny and a recent clutch assembly. The owner(s) did crazy maintenance on it. Even changed the anti freeze at the correct mileage interval.
    The AM radio even works!
    So - my plans?
Mikuni makes amazing motorcycle carbs, but for cars/trucks? NO.
They are great when new, but as time goes by, they SUCK!!!
This truck is no exception. I ordered a Weber for it the next day after I bought it.
I am planning to go from 14" weenies to 16" wheels with z rated tires. Isuzu has the same lug bolt pattern and they have a nice factory 16x7 factory wheel that has the correct offset and center hole to fit this truck.
I am looking for a KM132 5 speed transmission to replace the noisy 4 speed. The main input bearing on the 4 speed is junk.
If anyone has a good 5 speed that fits this truck, ping me please.
I might even have one, but it's in New York in one of my barns and I'm in California.
This is turning into a novel, I will add more later.

Tried to load a pic of this rig, but it keeps failing.

Oh, and I forgot to add - I've owned several Mitsubishi POSs.
    1979 Plymouth Sapporo, 2.6 5 speed
    1978 Dodge Challenger, 2.6 5 speed
    1988 Dodge D50 2x4 2.0 5 speed,
    1988 Dodge D50 2x4 2.0 automatic.

Hi and welcome to mightyram. There are still clean trucks hiding out there, even after all this time. But there's also a lot of rusted out junk that has been beaten into the dirt. To be honest, the Mikuni is only good when it's fresh but they choke the living hell out of these engines. The Weber swap will cure that. Not only performance wise but also on the fuel economy front as well (once you have it set up right). Not a straight forward swap but worth it. Check the threads on the forum on where to buy one from and how to do it - there are 'licensed copies' (knock offs) that should be avoided at all costs. And to be fair, the Saporo/Challenger was a weird car. Not a sports car even though they're a 2 door hard top but they were a TANK for a 4 cylinder. It did steer the brand towards building the Starion/Conquest/Starquest which was and still is an awesome little car. Once you've won the war to upload pics, post a few up for the voyeurs. Thanks

    ^^ Thanks for the welcome.
I have tried to post pix, I must be doing something wrong. Each time I've tried, it comes up with a "fail"
    FTW?
I use the attach image icon, it goes through the usual steps, then no cigar.

Anyway, a fresh Weber kit arrived today, I went to cardboard freight and bought enough tools (I hope) and will install it tomorrow - Christmas day.
    The Mikuni/Solex isn't cutting it.
If I could download pix, it will be a step by step install.
    Stay tuned....

    Thanks for the notes.
I don't think you know how much of a PIA it is to go through the whole picture posting process.
Photobucket BLOWS, Flickr isn't much better and I have given up on the rest.
I go to load a picture from my computer files and it says "failed"
I'm pretty sure I'm doing it the right way.

Yeah, don't even bother with turdbucket. Try imgur - guys here use it and it's free. The site was updated a while back and there has been issues with broken links and posting pics.

Here we go again... Another try at posting a picture.
I think the original was too large a file so it was being rejected. I resized the pic considerably, maybe it will go this time.
    Didn't work again.
Something is wrong with the attachment link.

I've now tried multiple times to load pix.
The site's upload tag does NOT work.
    I'm ready to quit.

what is the error message you’re getting.
once you hit the upload button it will give you an error message if it fails. It will show in the upload dialog box at the bottom.
do not close the upload dial lock box tell it’s done.
4.5 meg file test from iPhone over cell network. Takes 3 minutes to upload.
and since you’re in Sacramento we can meat up and I can see what is happening and why it’s failing. Send me a PM with your name and number.

I am not excited with this forum. The attach ^^^ photos icon does not work. Period.

Anyway, last Thursday an ahole urchin blew out the passenger window in this rig to steal about $300 worth of Cardboard Freight tools.
I guess it was sort of my fault for leaving them on the seat, but FTW...
Try finding a replacement passenger window...
Not like there's a lot of these left out there
I was super lucky, the only one in a 250 mile radius was 12 miles away in Rancho Cordova. The only bit of luck though this ordeal.
I lost about $1000 between lost work, tools and cost of glass.

Well, I could attach a picture as a file, but not on the thread itself.
I attached the file from one of my computers and the access I have is on a T1 line.

try to email the photos to yourself on your mobile device, then log in on your pc and open the image, save it to your pc, then open it and right click, then copy. then paste in the place where you type. Like this:

    Thank you Gents.
i have done several upgrades to this rig.
I posted on the S10 forum... i have 8 S10 (!!) I entered it as a project and got some good feedback.

    Anyway, i replaced the 14” wheels/tires with 7x16 Isuzu units, and Z rated 225/60 -16 rubber bands,
replaced both tail lights with new units - old ones were pretty beat.
I did the usual Weber conversion - HUGE difference
Deleted the “Jet” valves since it was using oil and making pretty good clouds.
i bought a header and had it ceramic plated, then to a 2.5” headpipe, reduced to. 2.25” free flow cat, then a 2.25” over axle tail pipe hidden from the public.
i just bought an OEM “sport” steering wheel - 3 spoke and not cheap, converted headlights to LED and have an Android 10 radio which i will install hidden from view.
oh, this truck has original paint!!
i also flushed the radiator, oil change and rtransmission change, rear end was good.
i’m lookiing for a KM123 5 speed for the narrow 2.0 block too. The current 4 speed has noisy input bearings.
im going to have the bench seat recovered, i was going to go with buckets, but a bench is cool too.
A PO had the seat re covered in the past - they used the cheapest material they could fined and it already hatched. Ill have cloth inserts instead of the vinyl rubbish.
i have lots of pix, its a real PIA to post them... but ill try anyway.
    Small update for now.
