Issues after head replacement.
I have a 1988 mighty max G63b 2.0. I recently purchased it & started having idle issues. It went on to being coolant in The oil so I pulled the head hoping only the head gasket was cracked but found that the head had 2 cracks where cyl #4 is. I purchased a remanufactured head(with jet valves as my old head had.) & new felpro head gasket. After assembly & having all timing marks ligned up, (little notch on head right under valve cover, crank, & balance shaft.) distributor aligned with notch on gear pointing to #1 cyl, it would backfire out carb some & try to start up but not fully.
after looking back at the cam I noticed when having tdc the #1 intake valve is very tight & the exhaust is loose on the rocker, idk what that is about but I’ve been reading they both should be loose for them to be closed can someone verify this for me?

Also oil smells of gas pretty badly

When checking valve clearance it is TDC without a doubt. & my intake valve doesnt have any play to it & wont even let a feeler gauge past it. It’s supposedly a remanufactured head from allied motor parts.

If it’s got hydraulic adjusters. It might not be seated correctly.

^+1 on checking the hydraulic adjusters. Then check distributor installation. It sounds like the distributor may not be in the correct location and/or firing order is out. Easy enough mistake to make.

How would I go seating it the correct way?

Does your engine still have the factory mechanical fuel pump? Oil smelling like gas suggests that the fuel pump may have failed and started dumping gas into the crankcase

Idle issues & smell of gas ~ might also be carburetor flooding ? Might be carburetor float out of adjustment or needle seat not closing properly?
You should change the engine oil & oil filter sooner than later...

Well after a bit of tinkering with the rocker assembly & hydraulic lifters I got it to fire with switching a few out to other valves, Ran for about 5 seconds then quit. I am running the mechanical pump so I’m assuming it’s not pressurizing or flooding? Possibly carb issues maybe? I’m running a 38/38 Weber so I should go ahead & swap to the electric in-line fuel pump?

Yeah, the Weber needs a HVLP fuel feed. It's either killed the pump, or it's overpowering the needle and seat and flooding it.
