    Unhappy 1984 Dodge d50 2.0 starting issues

    So i bought a 1984 d50 2.0. it ran when i bought it. The truck starts up when cold perfectly. After i go about 15-20km it starts shuddering and slowing down until it dies. Then when its cold in a couple hours it starts right up. the temps remain the same. It did this a couple times. now it starts for 3 seconds or so then dies. I clean out all the fuel lines and tank. I don't know where to start looking. Possibly the timing chain or jets in the carb? let me know what you guys think. Thanks

    Carburetor float adjustment is off or needle seat valve is leaking ~ could be causing a flooding condition ? Thats my 1st guess...

    When it dies and fails to restart, are you getting spark at the spark plugs?

    Yes it has good spark

    Check tailpipe color Black or Gray ? Light gray color is goog black is too rich or flooded...

    Is fuel getting to the carburetor? If not, check the fuel filter and pump. There may be air in the lines the pump can’t expel, so priming may be needed. Try starting with the gas cap off in case the cap or tank doesn’t vent well.

    FMS88 is right I had to replace the mechanical fuel pump to cure my truck steadily losing more & more power... Make sure the air & fuel filters are in new condition AND suspect all parts that have rubber pieces like diaphragms needle seat the rubber could easily be worn out split etc after over 40 years use..!

    So it turns out that they put a electronic fuel pump on a toggle switch. toggle switch was bad. so I hard wired it to the ignition and it works great. Thank you all for the help!
