    1st gen L200 factory fitted 4g63T ??

    Hi all, I would like to know if Mitsubishi ever released a factory turbo petrol motor in the first generation L 200 or mighty max anywhere in the world
    I am trying to work out what motors are suitable for historic registration in Australia

    The only stock turbo ever offered in these trucks was the 2.3L 4D55 turbo-diesel (1st gen) or 2.5L 4D56 (2nd gen), no regular petrol turbos.

    Some owners have done a "retro-mod" swap of a 4G54 or 4G63/4G64 turbo mill from other Mitsubishi models, but this may not be suitable for historic registration.

    in NSW Australia we have A historic registration scheme, all vehicles registered under the scheme have to be stock, but if that was a turbo petrol motor available from factory anywhere we would be allowed to use it as far as I understand

    i have a stock standard 1985 l200 4x4 with only 33,000 km on it and I also have a 1984 L200 4x4 which I’m hoping to use for club runs under the historic registration scheme but would like a little bit more grunt than the original 4G63

    I had never heard of a turbo petrol motor being available in the first gen L200 but then read in Wikipedia that the was a 4G63T available

    Ah, I was going by the Wiki article too, but only looked at the engines listed in the Powertrain section of the sidebar. I do see that 4G63T mention now in the text article, but looks like that was only offered w/ the 4x4 drivetrain in JDM spec, apparently mentioned in a Japanese dealer brochure according to the footnote citation there.

    I also noticed in the Wikipedia article on Mitsubishi sirius engines that the 4G63T was listed as being used in the 1983-1989 L200 and mighty max

    That list on the Wiki is just for models using the 4G63/G63B 2.0L engine in general, not necessarily the 4G63T turbo variant in particular.

    Yep, I see that when I read it again
    I might look at stroking my 63 , raising the compression and doing something with the carb

    Hm, not sure if a stroker crank and rods are even available for these engines, but maybe you could find high-compression (e.g. domed) pistons?

    if I understand things correctly the crank from the 6 bolt 4G64 is a direct replacement for the 4G63 crank ( both 8v 6 bolt )
    pistons are available using this crank and standard rods combined with the twin cam VR4 head(16v )
    but whether the Pistons to suit the VR4 head will work with an 8v head , I’m not sure about

    from what I gather.. the trucks use a g63b engine... the dsm is a 4g63.. while they are close I dont think parts that will fit into a 4g63 (like the 2.4 crank).. wont work in the g63b. plus the g63b was in the early 80s and up..(not sure if it was in the 79 or not)... and the 4g63 didnt start till 89 for the 90 model dsm. I could be wrong so dont quote me on this..

    The 2.4L would be a 4G64. AFAICT the G63B code just indicates a 4G63 equipped with jet valves in the head (likewise G54B vs. 4G54), whereas the 6-bolt vs. 7-bolt 4G63s have more significant differences. There's been plenty of discussion about those here before, reckon "DSM" would be a good search term to dig those up.

    There was also a G63B turbo in the Australian Starions that would work, but to document it as a historical vehicle might be a stretch. Exceedingly rare in the US - only available as imported parts, US models got the 2.6 G54B engines instead.

    yes, I believe it was a single point fuel injection running a 12b turbo and I think that motor also what is available in first gen Pajero‘s in Japanese domestic market
    it is that motor that I thought might be possibly used in the first gen L 200s in the Japanese market
    but I cannot find any real evidence of that bling correct
