    Carburetor Woes

    I am wondering what type of Mikuni Carb I have? I have looked on the carb as best as I could to see what model specific it is. Are all of them the same?

    I have '88 Ram with the 2.0

    It's running rough and me and a guy are thinking that it's the carb. He is willing to rebuild it because I don't know much about these Mikuni's except for what I have seen and heard on here about that they are a pain in the rear.

    I did buy a Weber 32/36 off of Facebook marketplace and the guy that is willing to help me doesn't think that I need to go that route yet since he is pretty much set on rebuilding the carb for me.

    The model number of the 87-89 Ram 50 carburetors is 32-35DIDEF-4##. The three number extension identifies the engine size, transmission type and emission requirements for which the carburetor is configured, but the carburetor is basically the same for all three years. If it isn’t worn way, the model number is on the carburetor top next to the air horn.



    Rebuilding this Mikuni is a challenge. There’s only one rebuild kit available for the 32-35DIDEF and it doesn’t contain everything you may need. Parts like the feedback solenoid, bowl vent and mixture control valves are not included and if needed, finding them can be very difficult and expensive.
    Your best bet is to convert to the Weber. There are many threads on this site concerning Weber installations as well as active members who have made the switch. They can be very helpful during your conversion.

    What all did you guys do to plug that coolant hole in the intake and what did you use to the vent hose on the top of the valve cover? I see YouTube videos but they don't tell me much.

    Also, the mechanical fuel pump delete, what bracket did you use or do I have to make one?

    In my case, the coolant hole is blocked by the adapter plate and gasket. I used aircraft-grade gasket sealant on that gasket, been driving it for a year with no issues.
    On the air filter that came with my weber there is a port on the bottom side, vent hose plugs right on.
    For the fuel pump I used a block off plate for a small block chevy. I had to cut it down to size, I used the existing spacer to make my cut line. I had a bit of a leak there. Ended up putting RTV on both sides of that plastic spacer to get it sealed up nice.

    A fuel pump block off plate for big-block Chevy or small/big block Ford will work (SBC is a different shape). I'd recommend getting an alloy version, easier to file down any edges slightly if needed to fit. I used one of these:

    To block the coolant port in the carb mounting flange of the intake, I tapped threads into that hole and filled it with a stainless grub/set screw using thread sealant. I forget whether it was a M6 or M8 thread, but you'll find out when you tap it. I'd suggest tapping threads just deep enough for the screw head to sit flush with the flange when it's screwed in tight.

    You may also have a coolant tee rising off the back of the intake. Some have removed that tee and replaced it with a single barb for the heater hose, but I found the tee impossible to remove, so I just capped the side barb with a short length of hose plugged with a bolt and hose-clamped at both ends.

    If your Weber's air filter housing doesn't have a barb for the breather hose, you can just remove the hose and cap the barb on the valve cover with a breather filter. I used one of these, as it has stainless mesh media that should last forever:

    Another question, is there a way I can get just the adapter kit? I don't really want to get another carburetor... I have tried to call and get ahold of Redline, but I'm hitting a wall. They haven't returned my calls or emails... and I have no idea how to order on their website either... there is no option to????
