    brake calipers

I have a brake that is dragging and its definitely the caliper, does anyone have a good source for a replacement?
The truck is a 4WD and the only thing i can find is for 2WD.
I found information about a montero brake upgrade, but it appears to only apply to the 2WD version.
Can anyone point me in a good direction?

When I had a stuck caliper my local NAPA guy got some from Motion Auto Supply. Mine is an '89 4x4. Took my time with fasteners and borrowed a Snap-on metric tubing wrench for brake lines. May use some good penetrating oil on tubing/nuts to make sure they're not stuck on lines. Best of luck.

According to my limited 1990 parts list, the 84-86 pickups and 84-87 monteros used the same calipers: P/N MB193499 and MB193500. Searching by P/N, couldn't find anything available except from foreign supplies asking $300-500 each. There are custom caliper rebuilders out there, but you'd have to call around to determine availability and cost.

Based on P/Ns, upgrading to the 93-98+ Montero calipers seems very possible. P/Ns for the 4x4 pickup knuckles and hubs are the same for model years 84-90. Since others have performed the upgrade on their Gen2 trucks, it should work for your '84 4x4. However, the rotors on your '84 are different - thinner and of a smaller diameter. So you will have to replace those with Montero rotors (277mm diameter, 24mm thick), but you should be able to mount the two-piston Montero calipers and rotors to the '84 knuckles and hubs. I couldn't tell if the original backing plate and brake lines will need changing, too, but those shouldn't be difficult to modify if needed.

Thank you for getting back to me.
I need to go through and replace many of the parts on the braking system
Pads, rotors, soft lines, calipers, and fluid flush. If there are any
Modifications that need to be done, that is all within my capabilities

I want to look a little further into these mods before I pull the trigger

    Thanks again
