may not have a 4th gear!

Can anybody tell me if the 91 ram50 sport automatic is 3 or 4 speed... i did notice and try the overdrive on/off button on the shifter but it doesn't seem to do anything... and i can only count it changing gears twice! The other thing that makes me wonder is that once I reach 95km+ i get lots of vibration and mostly at the gas pedal/my foot.

before assuming the OD is gone remember there is a solinoid for the OD on these trucks. its located under the dash along and above the drivers side kick panel.
damn, i usually have pics of this stuff and all my manuals and crap are packed up and sealed....makes it much easier to understand.
hopefully someone else can provide a pic or a better explanation

Thanks so much guys, it's a lot just knowing about the solenoid!
I'll swing by the garage today, they have been working on my truck for the past 10 years with the previous owner:)

Holy hell i'm out $140 and still no solinoid! I really need to learn a bit of mechanics fast.. so here's the update/rant cuz i still feel a bit sore!

I got to my local regular garage and talk to them about he solinoid/OD problem, they recommend that i go to the local Dodge dealer because they have the equipment to test.. I figure ya smart move. So the dealer testdrives it and tell me the kickdown cable is seazed and they have fixed it(greased it) so i can come get the truck... YAY fixed and only cost $80... me happy!.. BUT driving home i still have no overdrive, so I head back in the morning and they say they will put it on the lift and drop the oil pan.. I remind them that they have not checked the solinoid and switch yet.
I return later in the day to hear them ask me for another $60 bucks for checking the solinoid, which is the problem and then they tell me I also need an oxygen sensor($190) and the did an estimate for a muffler($129)... At this point i'm kinda freakin, $140 bucks for a greased cable is basically what I ended up paying... I still have no overdrive..

i would check the junkyard for the solinoid, being the dodge dealers really like to charge a bit more than list price for parts. i would try the mitsu ones i got a WAY better deal on my ignition switch there than the dodge dealer(like $40 diff.)
i recall asking over on md50.com a long time ago if anyone was familiar with the procedure for testing the relay but got nothing.
when i get home ill see if i can dig up my haynes manual since i have a chart printed out from the dealer that i keep with it. it list all the relays and solinoids part numbers and locations in the 87-93 ram 50/raiders.

Thanks niftyd.. I did find a solenoid at an autoparts place for $80.. i'll check with a Mitsu dealer tomorrow.. I did check with 2 scrap yards near me and they have no parts for me:(.

I decided to write a letter to the dodge dealer, I just think charging me $140 for what they did is outrageous.

Ya, the dodge dealerships aint ideal to have em work on your truck IMO if you can take it to a mitsu dealer

$80 bucks, fuck that! if its not burning alot of oil id rather not have the OD. there has to be cheaper alternitives there for you.

okay, i went and dug up my stuff and wouldnt you know it the one page i was looking for wasnt there(with the relays for the ram50) but turns out the printouts are for the 87--88 ones anyway.
but the raider one listed a number for the OD relay (# MB51 0483) but the diagram looks totally different than what i remember mine looked like(mine was a round cylinder one, like a hazard relay but this one is boxy like a headlight relay) although both seem to be in the same location. its been awhile so i dont remember too well about this stuff.
i dont know what, if any, differences there could be from this.
