Yea, just pull the whole thing out of the pumpkin. I would say for your build yea 3.9's would be about what you want, but its all personal preference. The higher the number the more torque/bottom end its going to give you the lower the number the higher it will rev out in each gear.

Great - The entire 3rd member is what I will yank. I figure as long as I dont see a buttload of metal shavings and all of the splines look good on all the gears, it should be a good unit from the JY. Anything in particular to really watch out for?

I will stay with the 3.9 as I know that I can drive it on the freeway at normal speeds without taching it out. I had a 4.11 in my chevy truck once and 70mph was racking the R's but the low end was great. 3.9 is a nice middle ground gear. Thanks for all the info! If everything goes well I will be laying it down like this :auto-layrubber:

No cover for the diff just a carrier.

How to: remove driveshaft flange bolts normally like a 12 and 14 wrench, axles 4 12mm nuts/side, cut some brake lines, then you otta just need to pop off all 1000000000 of the nuts that hold the carrier in think there a 10mm maybe a 12mm cant remember

Anything majorly wrong with the diff will be obvious. R&P is kinda hard to fuck up to badly

I dont think 4.22s would hurt if you had em but I'm not an expert and for drivablility on small tires probly not good.

Thats unfair, I was just going off of memory. Your 1ups manship is impressive :handgestures-thumbup:

Tho it does seem that driveshaft flange bolts very motor to motor. and 2wd vs 4wd.

I cheated, I just pulled the pic from my project thread when I did the LSD swap.

I dont think my Van has a posi. Back in winter with the really bad bald tires in back, it would spin one wheel on ice all day long. Wouldnt even move until someone pushed it.

So the 88-89 starion lsd carrier with 8 inch ring gear and pinion can be swapped into the rear of my 90 max truck? Or I have to get the montero center section? I found a good deal on the ring and pinion from a starion with open diff but I was gonna hold out for a limited slip.

No, i believe the station gears nd lsd will only fit in the front diff of a 4x4 max. For the rear you need the gears andcenter section from a montero

Well I know that TurboMax just put the starion gears on his montero lsd center and it brought his cruising rpms down due to the ratio change and I was hoping I could just get a starion carrier with limited slip( which is 8 inch) and my truck axles would spline into the starion unit.
