Fixing that CLUSTER lighting problem! LED's

So I came from the tuner/import world over to the mini trucking world. I hated the backlight on my non tach cluster... so recently I accuired a sport cluster w/tach.
I noticed that the bulbs were easy to remove and had a green 'cover' over the bulbs. I brought some of my 'tuner' skills over and decided to replace these dim crappy bulbs with some nice bright LED bulbs, in green of course! (WLEDx5) So I popped them in the cluster and did the install... no onto the pics... (sorry for the crappy pics, cell phone)

They are super BRIGHT... you can get them in just about any color... I used to have some in 'BLUE' in my cavalier.

That looks good. i was thinking about doing some thing like that to my truck. how do you put them into the little sockets and do you have to put a resistor in them. i no that leds need less power.

So I tried this, with blue lights and it doesn't work in the mighty max with blue. You gotta do it in green I guess because the guage face itself appears to be green. So unless anyone knows how to fix that I guess I'm gonna have to run green. Since my truck is gonna be blue I wanted to do blue lighting but oh well.

I put blue LEDs in my cluster and it shows up just fine, no green to it, and thats both a tach and no-tach cluster. Ask minimitz he's seen it

Well I didnt use LED's maybe that makes a difference. I did use blue tinted lights and it showed up green which tells me I have some green tint to it. I dont want to get LED's if its not going to make a difference.

1st gen clusters have green filters over the light holes, so to change it , remove the cluster and take out the green covers. That should solve the green tint problem. You will have to remove the gauges from the clusters to access the green covers.

I fitted red LEDs and it lights up nice and red.
