HELP!

Postby MMaxx94 » Wed Jan 20, 2010 6:14 am

So my truck has been down since June 2009. Engine started knocking and I had been contemplating between rebuilding and doing a swap. I had looked into options of a 302, but since then the truck with the 302 has been sold. I found a donor truck at my local Pull-A-Part. its a 91 MMM. My truck is a 94. So far we have about 25 hours into it, including pulling the engine out of the donor vehicle.

I wasn't sure if they were compatible with each other, but motor mounts and all electrical hook-ups were identical. The only things so far that didn't match up were the oil filter and rear main seal.

The 'new' engine is now in the truck and its turns over, but won't crank. Here's what we've tried so far.

changed:
spark plugs
plug wires
distributor cap
injectors/fuel rail/manifold/throttlebody/tps

checked:
we do have fire coming from all cylinders
timing is correct
we do have fuel coming through

In the beginning we weren't getting fuel to the cylinders. Then it finally primed and then it started flooding the engine. Hence why we changed injectors/fuel rail/intake manifold. Nothings changed. Still turning over but not cranking.

We're missing something somewhere. Might be something real simple that we're just not thinking of. The engine has great compression and sounds strong, but its hard because we don't know any background on the engine. Not even sure on mileage. And i'm trying to get it figured out by next weekend so I can return it if need be.

All help is greatly appreciated!

my first thought is going to be check the firing order. Easy thing to overlook, and happened to a buddy of mine on his GMC truck.

as long as both engines were the 8 valve version of the 4G64 the computer shouldn't matter, sure the tune may be slightly different, but all the hardware should be identical.

there is a 16 valve dual overhead cam version that was used in front wheel drive cars ... the engine from the Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Spyder.

You would definitely know the difference, lemme try to find some pics...
