Aftermarket gauges

I'm wanting to install a set of aftermarket gauges (water temp.,oil pressure) in my 83 Power Ram.Should I go with a mechanical or electrical set? Already have factory electrical sending units in it. Is one more accurate than the other? And yes Mike, I wont buy any that are made in China! :naughty:

go 4 electrical, you wont be able to use the factory senders but the gauges will come with the right senders and adaptors, but thats just my opinion

yeah i agree. I had a mechanical oil pressure gauge and the stupid plastic hose broke under the dash. there was oil everywhere. fuel pressure being electrical is a must.

Autozone sells some copper tubing that looks like it would replace the plastic stuff. I haven't run my pressure gauge yet for this very reason. I'd actually like to put a shut off by the engine in case something happened.

electrical ftw! only downside is you'll pay a lot more for electrical vs. mechanical. You wont be able to use factory senders but most gauges come with the correct sending unit. Most aftermarket senders will interchange too. Like I used my autometer sending unit with my prosport water temp gauge

id go electrical...i have a manual oil pressure gauge on my 4x4 with the copper line instead of the plastic...it works good but i dont see how you can get a good pressure reading with air in the line...im an idiot though lol but id say go electrical and dont get the cheepest gauges you can get cause you get what you pay for

mechanical guages are more acurate and less likely to fail accuracy wise. on the other hand when installing mechanical oil guage in the fresh interrior of my 74 vette, it came wit ha bad ferrel and leaked oil all over my brand new carpet! :) ... so take your pick lol
