stadium/trophy styled truck

Hey guys i just bought a 1984 Dodge D50 pickup. Im new to the site and looking for some info on turning this into a stadium/trophy styled truck. Can you guys help get me started on this. Also what larger motors will fit in this truck.

Trophy as in prerunner/dessert racer type?

The first gen d50 is craving this mod. Back in around 87 a guy by the name of John Baker won baja in his class. With a 2wd D50. Granted he had a complete front and rear custom built suspesnion. and a high powered 2.6 built. During thsi time, he also had aftermarket copies of it all made. Wich now if any one has a set there damned few and far between.

Your gonna have to be more specific with what exactly your wanting to do. A guy now adays is making custom UCA's and LCA's might wanna give him a try. his website is dallashotrodparts.com if I remember right.

Thanks, im looking to make a truck designed for the Baja 1000. But i don't want it unbearable to drive on the street. Kinda a weekend warrior thing. I really don't know a lot about trucks and cars. So you might have to spell out abbreviations. I know the basics but my knowledge base started with dirt-bike, snowmobiles, and street bikes. This is the first vehicle i have ever owned that had 4wheels and im 21.

Aw, so you wanna go with a prerunner wanna be like whats taking over So Cal.

UCA= upper control arm
LCA= lower control arm

The new ones are supposed to increase articulation. I think for wanting to do what your wanting to do, your on your own theres been a few guys ask about it but not much else. One of the guys from the old forum was supposedly tracking down the guys and parts for recreating a the baja mitsu but that guy was a tool.

There are a few guys (me included) who remember the trucks and equipment John Baker made and sold. For the front, he sold 3" lift coils and for the rear 3 Pc add-a-Leafs that were the correct width to match the rear leaf springs also a 3" lift. I have a couple of his old catalogs that I will post when I get the chance. Smittybilt used to make the prerunner bars for the front, and Baker made front and rear bars, skid plates and even an idler arm protection plate and steering stabilizer. For more power, the 3.0 l V6 from the montero or 2nd gen trucks can be installed, or you can turbo the 2.6 now in the truck.

im kinda late lol but thanks for the info. Its along wase out but eventually i will get there. Right now im just working on getting tires on it a replasing the master brake cyllinder. My next step will be to add a leaf kit to it. Any suggestions on what to do first. I Really want to turbo it as well. Where do i start with that.

Don't do add a leaf. They are totally mickey mouse for these trucks.( I tried them) I got new custom springs for my 83 made by Alcan springs in colorado. With U bolts they were $440 shipped. They are nice. I think the pick in my gallery is with the springs.

Thats what I'm in the process of building i just have it in the wrong place. Look under Newbies D-50 build out Sacramento. It is going to cost me around $20,000.00 to build it. Hi there! That's quite a pretty nice setup. I think I'm gonna let my brother follow this setup on his Dodge because he was recently asking me for some good suggestions on how to upgrade his truck. I'll let him read this so he would know what parts to be canvass. Thanks for sharing the info.
